    You friend can always select the option of "I'm sending money to family or friends" when sending money via Paypal as if he does that, then you don't pay any fees for using the Paypal service.

    Really? Even if the money comes from a credit card as per the OP?
    There’s no fee to send money to friends and family in the UK when you use your linked bank account or the money in your PayPal account. When you use a debit or credit card, there is a flat fee of 3.4% + 20p per transaction.

    Your friend can fund his payment via a bank account (similar to using a debit card) and then you both avoid fees.

    Missing the point there, if the friend had the money in a bank account then they wouldn't be looking to use Paypal..

    Yeah he only has funds available via credit card,if he sent it as a gift funded by credit card it breaches paypals rules..
