Post Office withdrawals & Santander

I am in the process of changing banks to Santander's 123 account. Much to my annoyance, the Post Office web site shows that Santander customers can withdraw cash at Post Office branches but the local post mistress said it wouldn't work and that only former Alliance and Leicester (Santander now) customers could use the facility.
When I phoned Santander they agreed with the local post mistress but would check and phone me back, pity I assumed the Post Office web site to be correct... They seem very convincing:

Certainly used to be the case that only ex A&L customers could use the PO.
It could be the case that it's changed, yet not all staff are aware yet? You could just give it a try once the account it open?0 -
The post mistress asked me to try my debit card, it is "active" but was rejected by the card reader... So it looks like the bank and her are correct and the Post Office web site is misleading.0

Did you actually try a transaction? An employee at the local post office here gleefully told me I couldn't withdraw from my Natwest account, until I insisted on trying it.0

No, didn't try a transaction as there is nothing in the account yet. However, the card reader didn't prompt for a PIN and simply said something like not authorised and to remove the card. The response didn't surprise the Post Mistress as she had seen it before with Santander cards.
I will update this thread when Santander respond to my query.0 -
My 123 debit card works happily at the Post Office.
Edit
though it is an ex A&L account
I can no longer - officially anyway - deposit an envelope of cheques at a PO. Though the PO have no way of telling that I can't0 -

Had you activated your Debit Card before you tried to use it?0 -

You don't activate Santander cards. They just come like that.0 -
Until a few days ago that page definitely mentioned that it was only A&L customers. I wonder if there's a change coming? I checked it at the end of last week to see that TSB is still included.0

Mine doesn't work at the Post Office.
Account was opened in an ex A&L branch (Originally a Premium I think, now a 123), but has always been Santander.0 -

I was told that I could not use the Post Office when I switched from an A&L account to a Santander one just before they integrated the A&L accounts into SantanderFew people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
