I have always wondered why people dont have a roast on a Sunday, We have one everyweek but usually in the evenings. There is only me and DH but then there has only ever been the 2 of us.
My mum always cooked a roast 1.15pm we sat down every single Sunday to me its just odd not to have a roast on SundaySealed pot challenge number 003 £350 for 2015, 2016 £400 Actual£345, £400 for 2017 Actual £500:T:T £770 for 2018 £1295 for 2019:j:j spc number 22 £1,457Stopped Smoking 22/01/15:D:D::dance::dance:- 5 st 1 1/2lb :dance::dance:0 -
We usually have a roast on a Sunday - but only at lunchtimes on cold days in the winter when there is less you can do - the rest of the time we eat it in the early eveningsDownshifted

Only if we have guests. There's no point just for DH and DD. if we fancy a roast dinner we just go out for one. That way when we do dinners when we have guests I can go really over the top. :-)Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

We never had a roast growing up. Hence it's a special occasion when I do now.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I roast unless it is really warm outside, then I often cook a chicken in the morning to have cold at tea time. We always eat at 6pm ish.
Roast chicken or pork (stir fry on Mondays!), or occasionally beef or lamb (Shepherd's/cottage pie with leftovers). Roast pots and parsnips, fresh carrots and a selection of seasonal and frozen veg - usually 3 or 4. Yorkies with everything. Cheese sauce if I'm serving leeks or cauli. Made from scratch gravy.
Years ago in Home Economics (that'll date me) we had to produce "meal plans" which were a timeline to make sure everything was ready to serve at the same time. I still work back from a theoretical serving time to put on the pots, veg etc! And I couldn't do it all without my huge pressure cooker for potatoes (4 mins) and veg (2 mins), leaving lovely concentrated vegetable water for the gravy."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -

a lot of work to cook? what's complicated about it? you put meat in the oven and veg on later and make some gravy! I still do a roast most weekends and sometimes midweek. and the washing up? depends on whether you think the roast dinner is worth washing up a few pans. but, as most people have dishwashers now - how hard can it be?0

To me it seems odd to wonder why others wouldn't have it every week...
There are so many wonderful things in the world to eat we'll never try them all, but why eat the same thing the same way at least 52 days of the year? That's one of the things that surprises me about people not choosing one or two carbs, for example, but rather having so many at each roast meal....why not have some variety?
Even with our Christmas lunch last year....I'm not well and there were only three of us, and I said I wanted to cut some of our traditions....despite much fretting I did. We still had left overs( the best bits IMO) we had some of the edited bits as separately cooked things for festive meals. And it was fresher, cleaner, and, much to everyone's reluctance to admit, including mine, BETTER for the edit.
I'd often rather try something new, saving something familiar for other times.0 -
