well Haven Golden Sands has loads and loads of last minute special offers but is impossible to get to on a Friday evening on public transport.....

all the other East Coast sites that are nearer to rail stations eg any near Filey or Cleethorpes do not have special offers  Thorpe Park is £90 more expensive, and the 3 haven's at filey don's appear in the Haven special offers...

Golden Sands appeals as i know the pool has a flume and so the kids will be happy all afternoon, plus the beach is easy for me to get to.

right now to see how much a taxi would be - or as some one suggested paying for 3 nights but only using 2 would still be a good deal...

  • Dont know whether Butlins are doing any deals for when you want to go. There is a Butlins just outside Skegness, taxi would be about £10/£12 but think buses run later as well.

The star attraction in Mablethorpe is the derelict chip shop.
Really, after two days the kids will be begging to go home unless everything is on the site.
    Be happy...;)

Depends on the kids ... mine (7 through to 13) love the beach, the funfair, the little model railway exhibit (inside the funfair), the donkeys, the sand train, the seal sanctuary, the shops and the amusement arcades ... the really nice cafes (Cooky's, just inside Spanish Town, just off the High Street, near the main ramp to the beach and the little one (Mermaid?) on the seafront just off the Quebec Road carpark are the two we use the most, but there are others), the ice creams (take your pick of shops) ... the bouncy castle 'park' (that might not look much, but keeps them occupied for hours if you let them) and Pirate crazy golf (both near the Mermaid, off the same carpark) ... the (free) public play pool (for when the beach is just that bit too hot/cool/breezy), more crazy golf, miniature train rides and boating lake at Queens Park (just along Gibraltar Rd, and there's another good cafe/ice cream shop there) ... if you're lucky, the lifeboat station will be doing something as this is a big anniversary year for them (you can still take a look at the boat even if not) ... and on a wet day, there's the little Loewen cinema to fill a couple of hours at (far cheaper than most city cinemas too).

And that's just the stuff we've done over the years (there's more than just that) that's in walking distance of Golden Sands/Mablethorpe centre.

Yourtaximeter.com suggests you might be charged around £35.00.

That's three people from Skegness to LN12 1QJ... luggage maybe extra.

    hi all

Butlins would be my first choice as i know it is quite near to Skegness but its an adult only weekend the weekend i want to go away.

When i take the kids away without DH and we are stuck somewhere without a car we dont usually venture from the Haven site - the kids will go swimming for the whole of a morning or afternoon session, then spend the rest of the day on the beach or adventure playground until dusk . or will even sometimes spend both morning and afternoon swimming if there is a flume as well, we then go back to the van for a tea and then off to the showbar for an hour.

I have been to Golden Sands before so know what the area is like, and we went to Butlins skegness a few weeks ago on a sun deal, so we are not gong to explore the area but to enjoy the pool and beach.

It just wanted to take them somewhere that weekend as DH is working away and we will be stuck without a car so i thought we might as well be stuck at the seaside with a good pool rather than be stuck at home with nothing to do all weekend.
