Smart phone banking app

Can anyone advise me on how safe an app for mobile banking is on a smartphone? I am on holiday abroad for 2 weeks and will be using open wireless networks. I will be transferring funds only.

As safe or risky as anything else. Don't you think the banks don't know your spending habits? You know you can date transfers , so you can do them from now before you travel if you wish.
  • You should be alright as these apps will use encryption for transmission of the data. Also, put a password on your device so its required everytime you use it. If you have an iPhone, this simple step encrypts the device and data on it. If you have an Android, I believe you have to manually go in to the settings and select to encrypt the device. This ensures no one can break in to the device to get the data contained.

I tried to capture a screen shot of my barclays account and it wouldn't capture, I haven't tried it on Lloyds or Halifax.

Thanks for the replies. I normally do schedule payments but have started a new job and this will be my 1st pay payment going into my account while i am away on holiday. So i am nervous just in-case anything goes wrong and it doest reach my account. Fingers crossed that i won't need to use it :)

I can see why it would be disabled as there are account numbers etc on display, I only wanted the screen shot for novelty purposes as the balances are quite healthy at present.

I can screenshot Barclays on an SGS3 too.
  • My Smile banking App lets me take a screen shot, however my Santander one doesn't. Both are on an iPhone 5
