You really need to have your car looked at by a friendly, local, independent. Forget the power steering weep and the boot lock for the moment, your car sounds like one or more of your shockers have gone and need replaced asap.

Okay, thanks.... but I did the push down on each of the "4 corners" of the car test (LOL) and they did spring back.

    You do mean shock absorbers?

mqBj1GFQZxzn11BwUtMjGig.jpg ...and not the suspension coil spring things (ahem!)?

I had two new front suspension coil springs fitted at a cost of around £160 by a local garage about 3 years ago but it still felt the same :(

Wouldn't a car fail an MOT if it had broken/dangerous shock absorber arms?

Yes, I know nothing about cars :p

I read that you should replace shock absorbers in pairs, but I have no idea which set are broken!

If the shocker was what happened to me, it dropped and rubbed against the tyre, and drivig to my local garage - a minute drive, I was driving 5mph or less and you could smell the tyre "burning".

I was VERY lucky it dropped as I just moved off from my home and not the motorway I was going to use!

    Get it seen too tomorrow.
Wow, that is scary. Same as when I reversed out my garage and one of the springs cracked and shot out from under my car

P.S. I have the same excat problem on my boot, a 2004 Ford Fiesta, never got it fixed as the key works.
Obviously a common Fiesta fault then that they can't be bothered to rectify for us owners at a decent affordable price :(

I had an identical problem on my X-Type (and no key alternative). My OH solved it by getting me to 'plip' the boot with the remote at the same time as he hit the boot (where the lock is) as hard as he could. It worked a treat.

Honestly don't know how he knows this stuff.

  • Nope, didn't work for me, thanks though.
  • My old fiesty boot didn't work using the button on the dash, same thing as the little electric solenoid not moving far enough. Fortunately the older cars had a key slot in the boot.

I fixed it by rather repeatedly pressing the dashboard open boot button. I mean repeatedly.. Any rust and stiffness in the system got worn out eventually! I mean just sitting at the lights pressing it, again, and again and again...

Then it suddenly shoots open and some scally runs off with the contents off your boot, LOL :rotfl:

Nah, will try that tonight, thanks!

Not if you're waiting for the internet to mend your car for you. Unfortunatly, it doesn't do that.

Open the boot, drill a little hole in the hatch and one in the frame. Two self-tapping screws, two eye connects and whatever scrap of wire is kicking about (doesn't need to be a high amperage by any means) solves it nicely.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Had the exact same problem solution was to buy the part from ford £52 not too bad for a genuine part fitted it myself only 2 bolts works exactly as it should. Wouldn't bother getting a used one from eBay as they could have the same problem at least I know with a genuine ford I have 12 month warranty :-)
