Indeed, so I don't understand why your yelping on about the car being put on the road before this point. At no point have I suggested this would be the case.

What?? you came here for advice so clearly you wern't sure how the system works. I was merely pointing out that your tax isn't valid until the first of October in case you thought it was. At no point did I suggest that you intended to drive it before the first either!

The recent irrelevant comments from AdrianC have simply prompted me to clarify the point to ensure that you havn't been given conflicting advice.

Not exactly the response I expect from someone asking for help TBH.

Though you didn't offer help, did you?

You weighed in with an unnecessary coment after others had offered an insight.

There is no need for you to coment further.

LOL! Ok then. Sorry I didn't "offer help" earlier but I was doing other things.

I do note that with the exception of one contributor, the "others" had indeed offered you an insight.

You may wish to note post 9 in this thread, and the subsequent pooh-poohing, stating baldly that it was impossible to do precisely what the OP's just done.

As far as this particular diversion goes, I'm not talking out of my backside here or off guesswork, but - again - off direct personal experience.

Last year, I had a car SORNed. I took it out of the lock-up, MOT'd it, then drove it across the country very shortly before the end of the month.
    <slaps own wrist>

Yes, I did receive an ANPR "spotted by camera driving whilst untaxed" letter through the post (A40, Oxford, between Cutteslowe & Wolvercote roundabouts, on top of the pedestrian lights, fwiw).

However, before that was received, I'd already taxed it over the counter at the local PO - still before the end of the month, receiving a tax disc with an expiry date just over one calendar year away.

I never heard another thing about that ANPR tug...

    ^^ You were lucky then.

Yes, I did read post #9 and i'm afraid that you are wrong. Yes you can purchase a disk a few working days BEFORE you can use it when your car is currently SORNd. But (and as you've just confirmed) until the end of the month, your car will still show as being SORNd (which it is) until the next disc becomes valid (being the first of the NEXT month).

If your car is SORNd and you apply for a disc to start straight away, then it will start from the first of the month in which you make the application. If you apply for the disc to commence from the first of the next month (as the OP has done) within a few working days before the end of the month, the disc will not be valid until then. As your previous post proves, if you drive before the first of the NEXT month, then you are driving without tax.

Re-read, my friend. The ANPR got me the day before I bought the disk.

Although no further action was taken in respect of your offence, a licence is only valid from the beginning of the month it has effect, so although the licence was taken out before 1st October, it only has effect from 1st October.

And? The point is that your vehicle was still untaxed WHEN you bought the disc. It only became 'taxed' on the first of the month to when you applied the disc to run from.
