Wait until the 1st October. At some time in the early morning. As soon as you have paid it and have a receipt number you can drive the car without the tax disc. You have 14 days in which to display the disc.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

There are only two main exceptions to not displaying a valid VED:
a) You are driving to or from a booked MOT test or place or repair for the purposes of obtaining an MOT certificate
b) You renewed your road tax online PRIOR to the expiration of your previous VED license.
Neither apply in this case so you leave yourself open to a charge of not displaying a valid VEDThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The period of 14 days following the time when a licence or nil licence for or in respect of the vehicle, or a relevant declaration applying to the vehicle, ceases to be in force, but only if an application for a licence or nil licence for or in respect of the vehicle to run from that time has been received before that time.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

You don't need to wait until the first. You can buy the disc either online or over the post office counter a couple of working days before the end of the month, and get 12 months plus a couple of days, rather than 11 months plus what's left of the current month.0 -

A new licence can be taken out from the 5th of the month that the old one expires, but it will not be valid until the first of the month it was taken out for, so the old one must be used until then.
As the OP's vehicle is SORN, taking out a licence now will start from 1st September, which is why the advice is to wait until 1st October.0 -

Not if the vehicle isn't already taxed you can't, if the vehicle has no tax and you try taxing it on 26th of the month it will be backdated to the start of the month. Different if its already taxed.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
