Repair gone wrong

Hello,

My Nokia mobile phone developed an annoying fault 2 months after its 2-year warranty period ended: its USB port (that is also used for charging) had contact problems. This meant that every time I wanted to charge the phone, I had to wriggle the connector to start charging. The fault did not render the phone useless, it was merely an inconvenience that I could live with, but as I knew it would only get worse over time, I decided to have the phone repaired at a local Nokia Care point. There I was advised that this is a known problem and the USB connector component of the phone would need to be changed for £60.
2 weeks later they contacted me to say that the connector was changed, but the phone cannot be charged - it is a motherboard problem. They did not charge me anything.
At home I tried to charge the phone, but now it behaves differently and would not charge at all. Now I have a brick, whereas previously I had a working phone with an inconvenient fault.

What are my rights in this case?
Am I entitled to some compensation?

Many thanks for your comments in advance.

The repairer already knows, and told the OP that...

Time for a new phone. If you think they were negligent then you could try that but I wouldn't be holding my breath.
  • Please clarify OP. It did charge before you sent it away (with a wiggle) and now it won't charge at all?
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

That is right: the phone would charge before I took it to the Nokia Care Point, although I needed to wiggle the connector to find the right angle. Now the phone does not charge at all.

You had a problem getting the phone to charge it was only ever going to get worse not better. Perhaps it's coincidence it now completely fails to charge.
