Hi, my brother has just moved into a rented house and I am hoping someone can help us.
Outside there is a virgin box and this comes through the wall and into the front room (there is no virgin box) so obviously the previous tenants had virgin TV. They moved in yesterday and there was a letter from virgin with all offers for them to sign up but they arent interested. The problem is the cable form the aerial on the roof has been cut outside and so there is no aerial coming into the front room for them to connect their TV to to watch TV. I am guessing this is a basic right when you rent a house that you have a TV aerial?
Would be very grateful for any advice on what they need to do? Is there a way of getting freeview channels through the existing virgin cable? I am guessing you need a virgin box to decode the signal?
Many thanks

No, it isn't a right to have a television aerial unless it states that there is one in the lease/inventory.
You cannot get freeview through a virgin box, to use a virgin box you need to sign up to virgin, you would then receive a card that goes into the virgin box and enables it to work, a bit like a phones sim card really.0 -
There is no right to a TV aerial. It's nice to have one and if one is provided it should be maintained but if not mentioned on inventory then an aerial is not provided and if the tenant wants one then they have to install it themselves. They can take it with them when they leave.Hi, my brother has just moved into a rented house and I am hoping someone can help us.

Shouldnt this have been addressed prior to renting?, there is no right that I know to have an aerial. But why they cut the cable just because they had Virgin is a mystery. Yes of course you need a Virgin Box to decode the signal.0

The inventory states TV aerial socket in living room. Can this be said if there is just a virgin socket? There is an aerial on the roof and yeh it is strange why they cut the cable. Probably virgins way of making sure people sign up to them. But we will just get a new cable from the roof aerial to the front room after confirming this is ok with the landlord.0

Virgin don't have a socket, its just a cable that comes into your house and plugs directly into a virgin box. I also don't see how the landlord/previous tenant removing their aerial cable has anything to do with virgin.0

It's mentioned so you should ask the landlord to fix it as it should work as a tv aerial. I don't see why they wouldn't. Where is the cable cut? Could it not just be reconnected? The inventory states TV aerial socket in living room. Can this be said if there is just a virgin socket? The virgin connection should not be mentioned and if it was it would be called virgin tv socket....it's not an aerial.:footie:

It is cut outside, the cable comes right down the wall but then is cut where is would come into the front room. So there is not enough cable to get into the front room. I will tell him to ring the LL tomorrow and see what they say. There isnt even a socket on the wall for the TV aerial so whoever installed the virgin TV really didnt want anyone to go back to normal freeview

Have a look at the Virgin offers - with Phone/TV/Broadband there may not be much price difference to Phone/Broadband elsewhere - and much less hassle.0

Why is it Virgins job to install aerial sockets for people?0
