British Airways vs Virgin - is Virgin worth the extra?

I have a question for you seasoned travellers! We are about to book a holiday to the Caribbean and have a choice of either flying with BA or Virgin. Virgin flights are about £200 more expensive per person, ie £400 for the couple.

I flew with Virgin last year, I found them great but I have never flown long haul with BA so I can not compare. OH wants to fly with Virgin, I'd be happy to economise on the flight in true MoneySavingExpert style and spent the saved £400 on doing stuff on the hols.

Tell me, is Virgin THAT much better?

IMO, nope, there's not that much between them in the same cabin class, Virgin are better with their children's facilities, but it doesn't sound like you're travelling with children anyway.

Some people prefer BA, some prefer Virgin but the truth is that in economy there isn't much difference between them, so I wouldn't be spending any extra for one above the other. £400 will go a long way on holiday spends.

No way are virgin worth £400 more!

You might even be able to upgrade to premium economy one way with BA if you don't mind paying more than the current cost. Don't waste it on Virgin!

No appreciable difference, I would just go with the cheapest.

Where are you traveling from? I think VS only do the Caribbean from Gatwick, and BA go from LHR? So if traveling from the north Heathrow will be 1 1/2 hours closer to your home, and vice versa. T5 LHR is a much better experience than LGW South as well.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

No I wouldn't regard Virgin as better in fact if they were the same price I'd probably go for BA if everything else like timings wree similar

yup, I agree with this. have flown with Virgin to Florida every year for 15 years. Last year saved £300 with BA and they were fine. Going with BA again this year. They have a better cabin baggage weight allowance too. They do twilight check-in at Gatwick, no idea about Heathrow.
