Disabled parking at multi storey car parks

I know I don't have to pay to park in pay and display with my blue badge, but was just wondering if anyone knows if you are also exempt from paying at your local multi story car park. The one in my city centre in a q park.

Thanks

Joe

There are quite a few pay and display car parks where badge holders have to pay.

It is "on street" pay and display that you do not have to pay.

(The rules are different in London)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

It depends on the individual car park's rules. My Aunt had a blue badge and I know we had to check each time and had to pay in one near where I live, although she was surprised and said it is often free for blue badge holders.
  • The problem I'm having is I wanted to join a gym in Liverpool One and the car park which is best access to it is £5 for a 2 hour stay and if i go 3 ties a week this is £60 a month and the gym membership is only £15.99 so this isn't logical to me. As I have my blue badge I'm wondering if trees anywhere I could park and do a short walk for free

So far as I know you do have to pay in the Q Parks - it's a private company, not council car parks. There's disabled parking by the Town Hall in Liverpool (I'm in Liverpool), and there are some places where you can park on double yellows if you have a Blue Badge I think Rumford Street is a place we've parked in the past. But these are both some distance from L1, not what I'd call "a short walk"! I have to use a wheelchair in town anyway, OH is in charge of getting me to where I need to be! ;) :rotfl: Guess all you can do is try drive around maybe of an evening when it's a bit quieter and see if you can spot some suitable places to park.

You might do better looking for an out of town gym that has free parking?

    Good luck!

From my limited experience there are very few (free) disabled parking bays in Liverpool City Centre, and you're lucky if you find one available when you need it! Occasionally I've been lucky, but more often than not we've had to park on single or double yellows or pay for multi storey car park. I did just do the google search you suggested, and have to say I wasn't impressed by the number of disabled spaces available. Think it might be time to get in touch with our local counsellor!

You ALWAYS have to check whether or not blue badge holders get free car parking in a given car park. Mum (the badge holder) usually grumbles if I tell her we've got to pay, and lists all the car parks where she wouldn't have to pay, but I point out that the badge permits her to use certain spaces, and does NOT always give free parking!

Is it worth asking the gym if they have any disabled parking, or know of any?

Q park provide disabled spaces closer to easy access points (ramps, stairs etc) but as others have noted it is not free, as you have to pay on exit. You need to check in each and every case.
  • The Blue badge is only legal on the roads and bye ways, this will also include any council owned car parks where the council display clearly shows the disabled parking rules. Retailers like Tesco and Asda should not even be asking for Blue badges they are not even legal in these car parks. It's up to these places to work out it's own rules this is why you will never seen anyone being done in these places , unless they have been parked for to long.

The rules for retailers are pretty hard line for example these places cannot demand you put up a blue badge since a blue badge is not legal, they can fine you for parking if they have a list of rules, but as we all see they say Blue badge only, that's not enough they have to have a list of disabilities and a list of fines and rules for parking.
  • I must be odd in that I don't mind the paying to park so much as long as its clear if I need to or not. If it clearly states blue badge holders pay the same or anything different that's fine. Its the being left guessing as to need to pay or not that drives me mad. If it doesn't say you first of all need to work out which authority you are in and then if its a local authority car park or not. Before you then trawl the internet looking for the answer or more often than not pay the normal rate as its better than that horrid sticker on your window.
