Been offered voluntary redundancy. Take or not?

Options
I've worked for the civil service for 11 years and for the 3rd time in recent years they are offering my grade an voluntary early redundancy package of £21000. As my grade is being done away with when the new system we have comes in. If we were to take it the last day of working would be 28th March. I'm 27 and this is my first job. I'm really confused and don't know what to do. I have to end of next week to let them no yes or no. What to do? I don't know what job I would want to do or train in. I live at home with parents and will have no debt when it's my last day.

What's the likelihood of redeployment if you are made compulsory redundant?

What would you use the £21k for?

How way would it be to get a new job?

Did you like the old job?

These are all things I would be thinking about. I guess the decision comes down to what you feel is best for you, having weighed up all the options.

I hadn't thought about redeployment. I have heard they try to avoid compulsory as it looks bad on the government? I don't think there is any other AA jobs but you never know what they might create I suppose.

The money if love to keep hold of and find a job ASAP even of doing something I don't want just to pay my fuel and car running costs as in the end of like to one day add to it and buy a property.

Out area had high unemployment so could be hard.its an easy good job with tons of perks. I get loads of time off and it's 3 mins drive from home.

I know they don't want my grade and it will come up again like it ah two or three times before. So I feel a bit pressurized by family, and work colleagues to take up this 'great deal!' That of they were offered they would take. I'm just scared what of at all job I'll end up with.

Don't feel pressured by anyone else into doing something you're not entirely comfortable with.

Maybe find out the details of your employer's redeployment policy and ask around (your union rep is likely to know) what happened to people in similar situations in the past.

On the face of it £21k is a lot of money and would be great of you could get another job within a few months, but it might look bleaker once you've been out of work for a year.

Assuming that this is a genuine question, why not read your earlier post dated 12 November 2011 (I don't know how to post a link).

    The Department are offering packages.
OP you have it wrong slightly you had to put in a request by yesterday for a projection on to how much you would get if you did take up the offer.
You dont have to make that choice until you have the offer to hand.

With regards to not needing AAs they have said this before, I think there will always be a place for them in the Department. Maybe not in the number we have now..

I think the next batch of offers will be announced December then there will be a lot more of different grades going or having the chance to go...

Living at home, with £21k in the bank, at aged 27 is a pretty good place to relook at your options and spend some time discovering what you do want to do. I'd take it myself. Do some retraining and keep applying for jobs in the meantime.

Ours is by next Friday. Interesting I didn't know they would be offering to other grades. Only thing is once i put in that offer it says it assumes I have serious intent to leave so I want to be sure before submitting it.

No it wasn't I was offered £17500 then I've just looked on that thread. 'Hi all thanks for your replies, the amount I have been offered is £17500'

Plus I had just taken out a car loan of 7k and credit card of 1k. So would have had 9.5k left. This time I'll have the full 21k
