stop sky from installing

hi,
a bit of a strange one.
does anyone know if a house owner can stop a "lodger" from signing up/installing sky in a room of their house?
because from what sky have said on the phone, the house owner has no rights & only the person who signed up can cancel sky
(the lodger is a young family member who is ill, on a mad spending spree & has no funds)
thanks

I would have thought the house owner could refuse to have the sky dish attached to his roof/wall on the grounds that it could be unsightly or damage brickwork/tiles. Ditto with drilling through walls to run leads.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As above, as the owner is the person who owns the fabric of the house then they have every right to dictate what can and can't be done to it.
A lodger has absolutely no rights in this situationThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
i totally agree with you guys, it does seem wrong.
how would you guys go about stopping sky?

I'd send Sky a Royal Mail special (proof of) delivery letter that records the signature of the person at Sky who receives the letter. (You can get a print out from the Royal Mail website)
I'd say your tenant has informed you that Sky plan to install a satellite and box into your home at the above address without your permission.
That you are writing to inform Sky they do not have your permission to trespass on your property or to damage your property in any way or to install any of their equipment in your property.
Request confirmation from Sky that they will cease and desist.
I'd also post a copy of the letter in prominent places in the house whenever you are out so if the lodger lets Sky in, they will see the notice. (take a dated photo of it in place) in case the lodger removes it.
I would also tell the lodger why you are doing this so he understands and does not become hostile.
Edit: - Just one question. If the lodger is going to pay for Sky to be installed then don't you think that might be a nice benefit and the hardware might be an added value for you or the next lodger, if you write into the lodger's agreement that he can't take the satellite dish & wiring with him and won't be re-imbursed?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is the person in question a lodger or a tenant? Very different things.
If a tenant, and their STA does not specifically prohibit the erection of a Sky dish, then it's not the LL's concern. No free lunch, and no free laptop
