Be weary of the ebay variety of "non branded" cameras.

I bought one that had good reviews everywhere online. It has fantastic video quality and sound quality is ok as well. Was only £40, but when i had my car accident a few months back when someone hit me side on the impact caused the camera to reboot and it never saved the video from the accident :(

    Resellers: CPC, ebuyer, Y3K

Pick one up on an auction site for around £100.

  • I bought the Sony HDR 15 £169 from Amazon. I commute by motor bike so felt it would be sensible to record my daily journey. I chose the Sony as it has steady shot, has razor sharp resolution, easy to obtain spare parts such as batteries, mounts, cases (Sony mounts are not that flexible, use gopro). It will go for about 2 hours continuous on a charge.
  • I use a blackvue hd which gives a good picture and uses gps to show location. The sd card can be removed and inserted in to my phone so can play back via an app at roadside.
Google gives you answers use it.........

Driving a lot to/from work etc and seeing stupid incidents etc on the road decided I will invest in a dashboard camera to be a step ahead. I seen taxi drivers use them in the Far East and think its a good idea here.

can anyone recommend a decent one for a regular driver?

what is best way to wire one up without having dangling cable from top of windscreen? I prefer not to interfere with car electrics, unless I can get one that can plug in 12V socket and long enough cable to table under steering, side of screen to location of the camera

    any tips and advice welcome

    thanks

Halfords do a decent one (Via) for just over £100.

Easy to use and overwrites the oldest file when it runs out of space. Amazing for picture and sound. It is also a good reminder for yourself on how you drive and how many idiots are actually on the road. Priceless in the event of someone causing an accident as insurers can use the evidence.

I got mine hardwired into the dashboard so it only charges when connected and the ignition is switched on. The wire is long enough to be hidden inside of the dashboard itself and up through the side and onto the top of the window screen. I leave mine switched on if I park in a supermarket car park for a short space of time to go shopping.
Search my post " PoPLA evidence - What to submit" on what is a good defense for a PoPLA appeal.

    Try ebay item 111049188042

    It does front and back.

i had one of those it was awful, could never get it to record both front and back at the same time for over a minute, would overheat

in the end i just ended up using it as a front facing camera, it was ok, however the battery inside went pear shaped, so when you turned the car power off the camera just shut off instantly, without writing the file properly making it corrupt and unusable

So taking that it account it was useless as an accident camera, if i had a bump and turned the car off without thinking, it would not have captured anything

Of course any cheap electronics are a gamble and you never know what you'll get compared to the next man

I have been running a mobius camera that techmoan reviewed in two cars for about three months, its really amazing

Another vote for the Mobius. Techmoan has reviewed most of the dashcams available and this is the best he has seen.
