Dashboard camera
Driving a lot to/from work etc and seeing stupid incidents etc on the road decided I will invest in a dashboard camera to be a step ahead. I seen taxi drivers use them in the Far East and think its a good idea here.
can anyone recommend a decent one for a regular driver?
what is best way to wire one up without having dangling cable from top of windscreen? I prefer not to interfere with car electrics, unless I can get one that can plug in 12V socket and long enough cable to table under steering, side of screen to location of the camera
any tips and advice welcome
thanks

What Closed had typed, I have watched a few of his reviews. At present I'm using my previous smartphone with an app, one app I use is dailyroads voyager and the other autoguard, or blackbox and or isymdvr on itunes.0

interesting seems good except it depends how good the sticky bit is to the screen. is this on ebay or amazon?0 -
On eBay, buy the suction mount with it and mine came without a micro SD card.
Bought a 32 bit class 4 and it works OK
Also invested in a long USB charging lead to route it neatly around the windscreen and to the USB port - if you haven't got a port you will need one that adapts and plugs into the power socket.
Result, a very discreet high quality picture (just time stamped) that starts and stops itself when the power is on or off.0 -
Try ebay item 111049188042
It does front and back.0 -

its only 720p recording whereas the video technomoan suggested 1080p is better for road footage.
plus the chrome finish will be visible to idiots outside in carparks etc0 -
Yeah but the newer ones did not exist when i bought mine.
Mines not chrome, Its a dark grey colour and silver. I even painted over the LEDs with a dark marker because they are bright. I think he comments on that?
My rear camera is smaller than that one though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
There's a previous thread on this topic here:

Do not expect lower insurance premiums.
Ensure it is wired into/powered by the car rather than the internal battery.
Having one with its own LCD monitor means that you can review it at the roadside, especially handy when the police are there.
Having a 2nd camera means it will also catch the back to show if someone hit you and pushed you into another vehicle etc.
Also shows if a cyclist comes speeding past you on the inside ignoring your turn indicators etc.
The one I linked to may only be 720p but still does some very good videos according to those I have seen.0
