If you ferry from Belfast you shouldn't be anywhere near the m62

    M6 - A66 to Scotch Corner then A1

I believe that ferrys from Belfast come into Liverpool so in that case you would use the M62 not the M6.

If its only a couple of days then I'd fly to Manchester and get the train from the Airport direct to York. Flybe from George Best & Easyjet from Aldergrove. Less hassle and cheaper than taking the ferry & car (+fuel costs)

I agree about the direct train from manchester airport - it's very good.

http://www.yorkfestivals.com/ is the website with the info about all the festivals on it.

The Christmas festival is the St Nicks Fayre - 28 Nov to 1 Dec:

As for sourcing hotels, what sort of price bracket and how central do you want to be?

  • FWIW Edinburgh is another city where you really don't need a car.
