Monarch cancelled flight 2 months before

Just had an email from Monarch . The flight is cancelled. Alternative flight 48 hrs later. No holidays left at work. Alternative flights much dearer. Will they refund all of the fare including flexi insurance & seats . Am I entitled to any compensation other than refund or flight change ? Tried to source simple info . This doesn't seem to be clear .I was giving them another chance after being let down last year.

Sounds like LBA flights. No compensation payable as period of notice greater than statutory period. You will/should get full refund of monies payable. Nothing further you can do other than have a rant on the Monarch Complaints Facebook Page.

No compensation but thought you had the right to insist on a re-route (even if it was with another provider) without extra cost to yourself?

    Am I wrong?
  • Not at all, lewroll. As you are only too well aware, having experienced this type of airline behaviour yourself in the past and received the correct restitution after a small battle I seem to recall...!!

Quite right Centipede100 - good memory - just wasn't sure whether the rules had changed or not since then.:)

    Yes there is kellykats.

You simply ask for a re-routing, which is an absolute right under the EC regulation EU 261/2004.
The regulation doesn't say that you can only be re-routed on the airline that you booked with.
Use https://www.skyscanner.net to find the best alternative flight that suits you.

Giving 14 days notice doesn't get them out of their re-routing responsibilities

This is what happened to lewroll https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3070460

The poster 'cityboy' closed his/her account I think. Not sure why, before my time on here started.
