Renting: Paying for light bulbs?

Why wouldn't you replace them? You can get bulbs for pennies - one agency local to me charges tenants £25 per bulb if any aren't working at the checkout ...0

My daughter & her mates have just been charged £12 each for a couple of light bulbs not replaced at the end of their tenancy.
She wasn't best pleased.
I just told her "It's a all learning experience, m'dear."
(Long story. Rightly, they'd given the LA a hard time & involved them with the local media, LA had since changed their trading name.)
Anyway, I'm telling you the same.0 -

Try telling that to a tenant of mine that moved out recently. They asked where they could get the bulb from for the bathroom light back in February but never got round to changing it. 6 months with no light in the loo with a 4yr old child. Unbelievable.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -

The property had no window in the bathroom, so it had to be changed. You needed the light on all year round.
When I left my rented properties, I left any bulbs which I knew did not fit any of the fittings at the new place behind. As I bought them in multipacks as some bulbs you could only buy in multipacks.0 -
How expensive are these bulbs? If this is a quibble about a few quid I'd say get on with it. Unless the house was in darkness when you got it I'm afraid you are responsible. An opinion is just that..... An opinion0

There is a rented property down my road and the ceiling light has 6 lights on it. 2 bulbs have blown (next to each other) and the tenant has not changed those bulbs since May. They don't draw the curtains and because its getting dark by 8pm, it looks so obvious. Everyone else around is house proud and their cba of changing bulbs stands out like a sore thumb.
Some people are completely oblivious with things.0 -
Lol ok I get it- we should have changed the bulbs. Reason we didn't change them is because we hardly used them
In the first place. The living room light took 6 bulbs then the wall inlets where the shelves are had fancy bulbs which as far as I was aware were expensive to replace but we barely used them any the big window and hanging ceiling light gave out enough light. The kitchen had a tube go that went under the wall mounted cupboards but there was plenty of light so we didn't bother. Would have replaced had we known they'd charge us but we have been told
It will be £14 for bulbs so that's ok. I'll remember for next time.
But they want to charge £55 for cleaning and say that's a very good quote from their cleaning company and they would normally charge double. The bath is definitely cleaner than when we left, oven had crumbs when I went with agent for inspection but I assumed my flat mate would clean that since I moved out early. I even cleaned the boiler and window sills. It works out about £35 each which I'm fine with but flat mate isn't...says he'd rather do it himself. Though I did look after the flat as if I owned it.
I suppose it's all a learning curve as someone said above. Can't wait to get my own place :P0 -
You have not confirmed what the check in inventory stated? If this doesn't mention light bulbs they would have to prove they were working at check in which they can't.
Same for cleaning. Unless it states how clean specifically?0 -

I'm glad I don't live in your road.0 -
