These situations are always complex, particularly where you have one partner that earns a much larger salary than the other. Even if the mortgage was in joint names, how do you split the repayment for the typical question? 50/50? By proportion of salary?
A friend earns well and his mortgage payments are £2,500 a month. His wife has a part time NMW job and I'd guess earns £7k a year. Would she really put down that she pays £1,250 a month in mortgage when her income is only ~£580 a month?
Personally I'd put down my partner as co-homeowner even if she isnt named on the mortgage. I am sure many wives/ husbands wouldnt like it if their spouse went around saying it was their house and their partner was just their private tenant
Ultimately for a belts and braces approach, check with the bank in question. The problem you have their is that different people will give you different answers and so National Hunter starts throwing up concerns due to non-matching answers.0
