I am the owner, applicant is my partner.

Charge your partner a nominal rent of 5p per annum, then your partner would be a private tenant. Could cause a problem if ever there was a need to evict ;)

But even the HomeOwner could be Mortgage free.. Its more a 'demographics' thing.. Afterall could be Ms \ Miss or Mrs but marriage status isnt determined by that...

But would they not then expect to see an outstanding mortgage on the applicant's credit file? And if they don't see one, would that imply living mortgage free, which the applicant isn't?

    Thanks everyone for feedback.

I think the general consensus is that it would be perfectly acceptable to state Homeowner as the status due to the living circumstances.

If anyone from MSE is reading this, it would be extremely useful to put some definitions of the statuses on this website so that this question does not come up again. I can't imagine I'm the only one who has thought about this when going through the application process!

The question isn't about mortgage status though it is more of a status question.

Yes there could be more selections on the form to make it clearer.. Your inference was that the homeowner would be expected to have a mortgage which is not the case.

Also as with Penns comment the OP is Living Mortgage Free with the Home Owner. so it is the nearest and closest match to what is there..

If the person applying is happy that that best fits their situation then that's all that really matters.
  • Try owning outright my portion of a shared ownership property (30%) with my partners mother living in it, for which I pay all bills, whilst I live with my partner in her mortgaged house.

That option sure isn't on a drop down list
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

Why are you fretting over the eligibility checker? You only need to worry about the actual applicatoin.
