How on earth does one choose a tablet?

I too am trying to find a new tablet to replace the BB Playbook bought last year which despite being superb build and robust suffers from the lack of apps and never got the BB10 upgrade that was hoped for. So I am looking at the Nexus 7. But is it the best option? My shopping list is:
Android
7-8 inch
Min 8gb
Wifi and 3G (poss BT as well)
must do video call (skype / viber) - assume it will do gmail etc
good resolution.
micro SD slot if poss (expandable)
usual slots - audio, usb a bonus as is HDMI
On 3G, if it is built in does that mean I could use Giffgaff or Ovivo if I wanted to or does that need a micro Sim slot?
Suggestions. Thanks.0 -
I have a BB playbook and it mostly just sits there doing nothing.
I got an iPad, and it is really rather good. Mine's only WiFi, as I don't really want it out and about.0 -
I'm so bewildered by it all that I just paid £88 for another Netbook on Ebay. It has a slot for a sim card inside the battery compartment so it has 3G.
It's the same as the one I have (which has a broken screen) so at least I will have two batteries, two power leads, and some other spare parts!0 -

Me, I've got a netbook and I never really got on with it, tbh. One issue is that the screen is small (dur!), and another is the keypad is fiddly and the mousepad is awkward; it's also a bit slow.Well, for NOW, maybe ... but there must be a reason everyone wants an iPad or tablet --- they must do loads of stuff a netbook does not do.
I've got an iPad and it just does what it says on the tin; the screen is the size of the unit, and you get a keyboard when you need it and not when you don't. It's good for general surfing but not great for typing a lot.0 -
OP, seems you're sorted.
I was having a play in PC World and am quite taken by the Windows 8 laptops where you can lift away the screen unit which becomes a tablet.
Seems they're still a bit slow with Atom CPU but maybe the next generation will be when you know longer need to decide between tablet or laptop.0 -

That is perfect for me, not so keen on the price though!0 -

Perhaps not the "majority" but certainly a selection!! Here0 -
I just realised that the one good thing about a netbook rather than a tablet is the the keyboard hinges down over the screen, protecting it. If you have no keyboard then you have to buy something robust to protect the screen, surely?0
