advice plz

I need some advice - since moving into (MHS) new build 4 bed detatched house 4 years ago, my G&E bills have been quite high (in 3 bed house was spending around £60-£80 per month) - I have often thought that the meter/s are faulty and asked the first company EDF to check the meter, they said that readings were ok and someone from the company had read them so must be correct, even in another statement (bill) said readings were high - so continued and then swapped company to E-on again I complained that readings were high and still nothing done, then recently switched back to EDF and got talking to my neighbour who said they only pay approx £70-£80 a month whereas I am paying £147 per month approx - now our houses are the same (4 bed detatched) - a little different but not much - am I paying too much due to a fault or overcharged ??

It is unikely you there is a fault. It is even more unlikely you are being overcharged.

FWIW the average UK energy bill is £1420 a year - and most people don't live in a 4 bed detached property, so what you're paying isn't outrageous.

You really need to post your usage in KWh, this will tell people an awful lot more and allow proper advice to be given. If your neighbour is spending a lot less, she is either using a lot less, or paying off a big bill every 3/6 months.

£147 for a 4 bedroom detached house doesn't in my opinion seem too bad. £80 is very cheap...Your lifestyles will be different so yor bills will be different.

If you would like some help then post your annual usage figures here....and your unit rates and daily standing charges and any bill discounts for managing online and paying by direct debit and your electricity region.

You should also post your highest usage appliances such as a dryer, washing machine, conservatory heater...etc and how many hours a week each is used. How many times a week is the washing machine used? How many occupants? How long are everyone's showers or do they have baths (how full)? What's the thermostat set to? Do you run the heating all day or do you turn it off overnight and during the day? Do you have anything else than runs constantly?

Don't you already have historic readings going back to when you moved in 4 years ago? You can post all those here and a trend should be shown if your usage is increasing, decreasing or staying about the same. 7 days is not going to tell you what you use on annual basis. Next week will be relatively warm compared to a freezing cold week in January.

These are the rates you've paid (and your payment history).

What it doesn't tell us is your consumption in KWhs. That's what's needed. Energy is measured in KWh's, not £'s.

  • Your posts are really difficult to read but these figures have been extracted from your posts.

    Electricity
    01/11/2011 48579
    12/01/2012 49964
    09/08/2012 53628
    07/11/2012 55295

    Gas
    01/11/2011 03720
    12/01/2012 04130
    09/08/2012 04982
    07/11/2012 05211

So your annual usage is around 6600 KWh's of Electricity and 16400 KWh's of Gas.

For a 4 bedroom detached house your Gas usage is lower than normal, your electricity usage is very high. So you need to find out what is using a lot of electricity. Do you have powered shower, tumble dryer, lots of gadgets, lights, portable heaters, games consoles or second fridge/freezer?
