2TB Sky+HD Box

Hi all,
I had Sky TV installed yesterday and i got a 2TB box with built in WiFi.
The tv is great, I love the catchup....however itss so noisy! Even when in standby mode it makes a constant whirring and its making my living room an annoying place to be when the TV off!
Even when the TV is on I can hear the whirring (sounds like a fan in the box) and if im listening to the TV quietly its at a volume where its loud enough to be annoying.
Im hoping this isn't normal and that someone else will tell me their 2TB box is silent. I used to have a 250gb Sky+HD box and that was silent on standby, oh how I miss it.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

The only time my 2tb Sky+HD makes a noise is when it is "woken up" from overnight standby and the fan can be heard for a short time.
I think you either have a fault, over sensitive hearing, or you are too close to the box.0 -
Or you've put the box on a shelf that is resonating and amplifying the noise.0

It's in the same spot that my old box used to sit and it much louder than that was.
It's definitely not over sensitive hearing, or being too close to the box, or the shelf amplifying it.
Thanks for confirming it isn't the norm for that box type, I'll get onto Sky.

The box with WiFi built in is just out, so you won't find many people with experience of it yet. The other boxes are quiet enough...0

I thought the noise was the hard disk. Slightly louder when its spinning up from standby. Some additional spongy rubber feet may help. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

This can be a common fault on the 2TB box - search google. I had mine replaced due to excessive hard disk clicking noise. This one is much better. Some people find turning off 'showtime' or instant rewind' in the menu helps a bit.0
