Bt - do you feel you've been overcharged?

hello
my folks have been on a basic BT broadband package and i've only recenlty discovered they've been overcharged consistently for supposedly going over their limit (since BT never warned them on their correct email address) ( - which isn't a BT one). So they've been regularly charged £5 extra a month for going over a 10mb limit. How - I don't know as they aren't downloading a lot. Finally after a complaint to BT we managed to get emails sent to their proper email address so they would be warned if they were potentially close to their 10b limit. They dilligently checked on a daily and towards the end of their monthly bill, nearly hourly basis, that all was ok. I've now discovered that they have supposedly gone over their limit last month - which just isn't possible given their extreme concern and that they continually checked their status via the BT site. Has anyone else been skewered this way? When they last checked (24hrs before their bill was due,) the BT site said they had over 1mb free - the following day they surfed very lightly and I am at a loss to know how they supposedly used up 1 mb doing a few online searches..

  • I sincerely hope that it is not a 10mb limit!
Haggle a refund on the understanding that you sign up to a more suitable package instead of taking your custom elsewere

The extra charge would have been itemised on every bill, even if they didn't receive the email-so they cannot have been unaware of the situation if this has been going on for some time.
A 10GB cap is only adequate for very light usage.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
