Verdict is in - starter motor and halfords quoting £280 to fix....they don't have the parts so atleast it gives me chance to call round for quotes
Anyone know if 280 is reasonable?0 -
The part is about £80 on ECP and it's supposedly about an hours labour.
I'd get a 2nd opinion on the starter motor, just incase it's the battery and Halfords are having you on.
If it is the starter motor, call round some local garages or ask friends/neighbors who they recommend.
Have a read of this for example price

Thanks everyone - got car booked in for a free battery check on sat morning at halfords garage, hopefully it isn't too expensive to sort
Got a brand new car arriving in 8 weeks but don't think this will last till the
Why do people persist on going to Halfrauds?????.
You will end up with a new battery, weather anything is wrong with yours or not.
£280 for a starter + labour is a rip off.0 -
The new starter may fail just as quick.
If the clutch and flywheel have gone, particles of shredded metal are thrown around and find the magnets in the starter and stick.
So unless the bell housing is cleaned of particles, it usually keeps happening again and again until someone does or it runs out of bits to pick up.Be happy...;)0
