    Probably because I didn't.... ;)
  • 2.8% alcohol is the limit of the lower duty rate for alcoholic drinks.
Any drink with no more than 0.5% alcohol isn't considered an alcoholic drink (in England + Wales, at least).

Is this irony? I can't tell. I've got the horrible suspicion it's not.

Going with the the OP states they are in Scotland - I'm going to assume the Tesco is there too. I hold a personal licence in Scotland - reading through my training pack
    - it states like you said between 0.5% and 1.2% is classed as low alcohol.
    - Serving someone a low alcohol drink when they asked for an alcohol free drink is an offence
-products containing more than 1.2% alcohol must be clearly labelled with their contents on the packaging/product.

They don't appear to have committed any offence - but I agree that the shelf label does appear misleading.
    Interesting. Thanks.

I'm unsubscribing from this thread now, but it was interesting to hear (some of) your views.

If it was on the bottom shelf then the label would be correct

the description 'Low Alcohol' is subjective so can mean anything you want - lower than what ? I would guess over 95% of beer bought in this country is over 3.5% abv so on that basis it is fair to describe beer below this amount as Low.

    Nit picking.

    Someone doesn't like Tesco.

If you are in the market for low, or no alcohol drinks, you will make dam sure it meets your requirements. That is, by reading the label.

Just like I do when I check to see if there is a load of sodium in a product.

    Simples.

But sure just buy it and get hammered. You might enjoy that on occasion.

TBH I just don't get the LOW acohol need.

You either drink or you don't.
