Warning: Tesco shelf labelling on alcoholic drinks

It took me three attempts to find the words 'low alcohol' in your picture, so it may well not be obvious to the staff...JReacher1 wrote:If you're that bothered to find a low alcohol aisleyou would probably check the alcohol content.Anything less than 4% is quite low alcohol.I think bud light is light because of the calories and not light because of the alcohol content.Good_Goose wrote:Low alcohol drinks should only be kept on the bottom shelf, to avoid me picking one up by mistake
Given the stringent way in which the licensing laws are enforced, I am still in the position of being genuinely surprised if Tesco are legally allowed to advertise these drinks as low-alcohol.
I'm not looking to prosecute, by the way. When I queried the legality of their labelling, I was merely trying to emphasise the potential seriousness of the situation. Not everyone does as I did and checks the ABV, and the consequences could be severe.0 -
I don't think anyone looking to purchase a drink with an ABV lower than 1.2% would neglect to check the packaging when purchasing. This is a non issue.0

If all things that were non issues were removed from this board it would be very emptyIf you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550 -
The word are far more obvious when you're in the aisle, especially given the fact that shelves don't normally have the blue strip running along their length. I mean, I saw them, didn't I?
What does it matter to you how "bothered" I am? I think you would have been better leaving this bit out.
Um, I did. I stated that in my OP. Are you for real?
Not by law, and not to me either. I don't class 3.8% as low-alcohol, though 2.8% isn't too bad.
Yes, that's what it says on the label. Whoever set up this shelf really wasn't paying enough attention.
Never having tried them before, I was actually pleasantly surprised by what I did buy, a 0.0% beverage called, "Bavaria", sold in a six or eight pack. Great malty beer taste. I think an unsuspecting guinea pig would be fooled.

I've just noticed you're Scottish. I think in Scotland anything less than 30% is classed as "low alcohol".
I also think you are assuming people are idiots. If people want low alcohol then they will check the bottle. This is a none issue.0 -

Three attempts. Really? What, you had to close and reopen the image three times?
Given it's right in the middle of the image, I'd suggest an urgent eye test may be in order for you.0 -

I hear tesco offer very good eye tests0 -
Going with the the OP states they are in Scotland - I'm going to assume the Tesco is there too. I hold a personal licence in Scotland - reading through my training pack
- it states like you said between 0.5% and 1.2% is classed as low alcohol.
- Serving someone a low alcohol drink when they asked for an alcohol free drink is an offence
-products containing more than 1.2% alcohol must be clearly labelled with their contents on the packaging/product.
They don't appear to have committed any offence - but I agree that the shelf label does appear misleading.0 -
