I don't have a thermostat

Then get the existing valves freed off or changed for TRV's. A TRV costs about a tenner. The investment will be far cheaper than the energy you are curently wasting year on year. How do you regulate the heat output at present-open the window?
You should have both, but if you have only one, fit a programmer (not just a room stat).
I regulate the heat by turning on, then when it gets hot turning off againit does have a timer fitted so can be programmed to go off and on via that.
Sorry but would you mind explaining what a programmer is?0 -
A programmer is basically a fancier timer where you can set different times for different days of the week. What you need is a programmable room thermostat which combines both programmer and room thermostat in one unit. It will allow you to set different temperatures for different days and times of the day.0

The gas man has been. Quote was £200 for a programmable thermostat, they only do one type its an all singing and dancing one can be turned on and off away from home via a mobile app! http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/remote-heating-control.html
I am not sure if its a bit overkill for my needs, I wouldn't use the remote programming aspect. Does anyone know roughly how much it is to install just a standard programmable wireless thermostat?0 -
I would imagine that the installation cost would be the same whether it is a fancy wireless thermostat or a plain wireless thermostat.
The difference in cost would be the difference in cost of the thermostat.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -
A wired one will depend on how much work it takes to run the wire to where you want the stat, if it needs lots of floorboards lifting and chasing into the wall it will probably cost more to fit that 12 quid stat than it would to fit the all singing, all dancing model!.0

You can pay all sorts of silly money for a wireless programmable stat but try this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Salus-RT500RF-Programmable-Room-Thermostat/dp/B003ERP1LE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1380037418&sr=8-2&keywords=wireless+programmable+room+stat
It's a proper wireless programmable thermostat for less than £35 and it works. It's easy to install, the receiver unit goes next to the boiler and needs either three or four wires to connect it (depends on the boiler/heating configuration). The thermostat itself can go anywhere as it has batteries in it. Any moderately competent DIYer can fit it. No wall chasing, plastering etc. You don't even need a timer if you've got a combi boiler as it has the facility to turn the temp up & down at different times during the day and each day can be different if you want.
£200 quid or more is taking the PNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

I appreciate your advise but I do not know anyone who could fit it, so will have to pay someoneI did think £200 was a bit much, I will make a call to a local gas company tomorrow and ask them.

You don't need a gas fitter, any electrician or competent DIY'er could easily fit it for you in minutes. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I hope you are not referring to me as gullibleAs I said in the post above I have no option but to pay someone. It will be interesting though to see what the comparison is between this one and a normal wireless programmable stat. Personally I can't see the advantage of being able to control your heating away from home, why would anyone want to be able to do that? It did have one good feature if you have older children who will be home alone whilst you are away, it alerted you via text if the heating had been turned up (glad they weren't available when I still lived at home lol)
