EE Broadband problems

Hello, I was wondering if someone can give me some advice on broadband.
I've been with Orange on contract for nearly 2 years, 12 months ago I took up they're offer of £5 broadband deal, I had no problems at all until 4 weeks ago when my wireless would suddenly stop working, web pages wouldn't load at all, "page cannot be displayed" constantly. I've had my lap top only 2 years and after going through everything on there, there doesn't seem to be any problems with my laptop. I rang EE customer services, who got me to log in to my admin settings for my broadband, got me to change some setting to do with bandwidth, and after that it was fine. For a few days!! I rang up theyre number with all intention of leaving them and getting my MAC code to be told that my router was out of date, and that it only has a 12 month life span. He promised me this would sort out all my internet problems, sent me out a new router (brightbox), 7 days to test it to see if my problem is fixed (7th day is Saturday), and 3 months free. I now have my new router, but im still getting "page cannot be displayed", I either have to switch the router off and on, or restart my laptop, or plug in the Ethernet cable to connect to the internet.
I really don't know what to do anymore, the speeds im getting are very low, when it decides its not going to work it stresses me out so much because its usually when im in the middle of doing something important! I don't know whether to leave them and risk the same thing happening with another company or just put up with it. My bill for broadband and phone line is usually £20 ish a month.

My son has EE broadband with a brightbox router and we had a lot of problems with dropped connection and the need then to reboot the router just as you have.
I spent a lot of time researching this problem. In our case we have several sockets through the house connected to the BT master socket through the front lower panel (which the customer is allowed access to).
We disconnected the front plate and plugged the router directly in to the test socket as suggested by EE and the problem ended suggesting a wiring fault.
The solution for us was to disconnect the orange wire from our side of the master socket as shown at http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm - a website that describes the way to do it.
Have a look at the kitz website first before you make any changes though and if needed enlist the services of someone familiar with telephone wiring.
The orange wire is not needed on modern domestic systems and can act as an aerial causing problems with some routers, and the telephone wiring and phones will work perfectly well without this (old ring wire) connection. DO NOT touch any wiring on BT's side of things as this is illegal.
This solved our problems and it may (or may not) be a solution to your own troubles. If you are not sure then get advice from a technician as I suggested earlier. There is also information on BT socket faults in the BT phone directory book to show how to check your system and it only applies if you have one of the newer master sockets (NTE5 type) with a join across the middle.
If you don't have any extension sockets then this solution won't be of any help as it only applies if you have extra sockets around the house.0 -
If its a wireless connection problem could be your laptop .
How far from the router is it .
If you run off Ethernet cable do problems cease .

I have 2 BT sockets by my front door (I live in a block of 11 maisonettes), they were there when I moved in several years ago. I had a BT engineer install a line extension from my front door into my living room as there's no plug sockets near my front door to plug in a router.
My laptop, when its connecting wirelessly, is right below my router, have the router on a shelf above my sofa. Sometimes my phone wont connect to it, and today I had a lot of problems trying to get my smart tv to connect to it. It does ease off if I plug in the Ethernet but then after 20 minutes it can suddenly go again.
Ill have a look at the wiring tomorrow when theres a bit more light!
Thanks for your help0 -
Have same problems as most people have on here. Contacted EE who have offered me 3 months without paying so what happens in January? I have sent a letter requesting instead of 3 months free to allow me to leave without paying the £77 disconnection charge and then I can go back to Talk Talk. I have asked that they contact me asap but so far no response. Why should I continue to pay for a service they can not provide.
Any ideas where I go next if no response??0 -

Using a pair of Homeplugs for your on-demand TV service will do the job infinitely better. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
