Payphone with credit card

Anyone used a card in a payphone?

Made a call yesterday...

Twice the other person was on the phone so got through to voicemail and disconnected without leaving a message.

3rd time had a 2 minute conversation.

I was charged £6.56 each time.

Has anyone else experienced this? Seems excessive for what should be 60p per minute.

    Credit & Debit Cards:
To make a call using a Credit/Debit Card, swipe the card through the card reader on the phone and follow the instructions. If there is no card reader on the phone, please call 0800 032 0023 and follow the voice prompts to complete the call.

Call prices - 20p per minute. Minimum fee £1.20 (includes £1 connection charge) for Local and National* calls. Please call 0800 661 610 for current prices for your call.

*Excludes non-geographic numbers (e.g. 0845, 0870), Directory Enquiry calls, calls to premium rate numbers, mobile phones, international numbers, personal numbering, paging services and calls made via the Operator. Other restrictions apply.

£6.56 each time sounds high. Maybe £1.20 for the 2 voicemails you chose not to leave as a connection fee, and £1.40 for the third short call. £3.80 all in. Are you sure it was £19.50-ish??

If it was a non-BT payphone the charges are likely to be higher than those referred to above

In this day & age of technology, ie. mobile phones, I'm actually surprised anyone uses a public payphone these days........
Would've been cheaper on a mobile than what you were charged to make a call using a credit card. :o

In light of this, BT provide payphones solely to avoid the accusation of racial discrimination. At huge cost to us, of course.

Do you have proof of this or are you just talking crap like all your other posts?

Do they locate them next to the McDonalds that sells Halal meat or perhaps the Premier Inn with the druggies?

Payphones are one of the biggest scams on the public in recent years. As you say, no ordinary person in their right mind would need to use one. There are however, vast swathes of the Asian population who do not use mobile phones and are only able to use a payphone. This is encouraged by many local mosques.

Surprise surprise it is the weekend and Rachel44 is back.

Thought she would know that BT provide pay phones so that drug dealers can use them and not be traced,

Is there still a button 'B' to press to get your [STRIKE]4d[/STRIKE] £1.20 back?
