Tesco Opticians

  • Good grief!

Is it any wonder we get such poor service in this country when so many people go out of their way to excuse poor service?

What happened here was inexcusable. It was incompetent and very bad manners. Tesco have wasted half an hour of their customer's time when they could have easily avoided that by simply making a phone call - there is no reason why a receptionist would be so busy they could not do that.

I just hope that TR gave the optician a polite telling off.

You have to be kidding! Would you give your doctor a "polite" telling off?! Its not his/her fault!

Ok, yes maybe the "receptionist" could have called to notify the OP.

I know for a fact that some opticians book your appointment and tell you a time 10 mins prior to the actual appointment. This stops people turning up late and therefore making them late all clinic afterwards.

    No, I don't.

Of course. And I have done when kept waiting for more than 20 minutes without being given any explanation. Or when I have turned up to be told that someone is 'running late' (by more than 1/4 hour) after the practice has made a point of asking for email and mobile details.

One assumes that the doctor/dentist/optician is somewhat higher up the pay scale and if not directly responsible at least will have some significant say in the way the practice is managed.

And if the practitioner is made aware that his or her patients find unnotified waits unacceptable they are more likely to ensure that happens.

Zedicus - you clearly don't work with an appointment system.

An eye examination takes between 15 mins and 30 mins, depending on many factors. We also have to factor in "fail to attends", people who arrive slightly late, and our human requirements like a bit of lunch, or having to go to the toilet.

The sheer unpredictablity means its impossible to run on time all the time. We never try to phone people if we are running late. The reason is because we might catch up. If people are told we're running late, we have no chance to do that because they'll turn up late.

Book a Tesco opticians appointment for 4:20pm. Arrange to leave work early, arrive at 4:10 to be told they are running at least half an hour late. Which is no good as this will leave it too late to get to the nursery.

Had they phoned me earlier to let me know I'd probably be irritated, but at least I'd not have needlessly arranged to finish work early and wasted my time driving there. Idiots.

I never realised you had kids. Are you teaching them to be as hard work as you are? Life's full of little challenges - got to roll with the punches. Teach that to your kids - not how to throw your toys out of the pram.
