Tesco Opticians

Book a Tesco opticians appointment for 4:20pm. Arrange to leave work early, arrive at 4:10 to be told they are running at least half an hour late. Which is no good as this will leave it too late to get to the nursery.

Had they phoned me earlier to let me know I'd probably be irritated, but at least I'd not have needlessly arranged to finish work early and wasted my time driving there. Idiots.

unfortunately that's life, maybe the person infront was a little late and the one before that or a traffic accident made optician late or they had someone go home ill - irritating yes but not the end of the world and there is the option of course to rebook.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • I appreciate they may run late, but it's unlikely they suddenly found they were at least 30 minutes late. They could easily have phoned to let me know and saved my time.

    I have booked elsewhere.
  • My sympathies with the frustration.
When I went, they weren't overly punctual either, but still free and I got a was of points as well as my prescription.

    Toys. Pram. Thud.

Maybe they didn't have time to phone you because they were too busy trying to get back on track?

If it's the Tesco opticians receptionist who does the eye tests as well, I'm probably better off out of there.

Harsh but if you go somewhere cheap like a supermarket which doesn't specialise in eye tests then you can't be surprised when the customer service offered is poor.

If you want a good standard of service go to a dedicated optician (although that will cost more).
  • I am afraid this is just typical of all parts of the healthcare system today. Their time is considered to be far more valuable than yours.

    Inconvenient but unfortunately not uncommon.

Delays can happen with all sorts of appointments - doctor, dentist, hospital, hairdresser (:D).

Rarely would they ring you for a half hour delay.

I normally try to book appointments for 1st thing in the morning, if I can, to avoid other peoples "over runs"!

I can understand your frustration, but it's surely better they take the time actually needed to complete a full examination? Specially if they've found a problem.

The optician probably had to refer someone to hospital - either as an emergency (therefore ringing the hospital to notify them who was arriving and what was wrong/ suspected) or non emergency which requires them to write a letter to the hospital to make a recommendation.

This is the optician doing his/her job. Unfortunately with most tests running at 20mins each, once you have one problem/longer patient it can all run late very quickly.
