If the country's population is to increase by 15% to 2050, as predicted by the UN among others, do we have confidence in our government's ability to ensure that the housing stock keeps pace with such a rise in order to ensure affordability?

What's the predicted cause of this population growth? Chavs breeding or immigrants?"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

Well make the most of it while it's here:money:"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.

Our present housing stock is already more than adequate for the forseeable future. We just have to use it more efficiently. The working classes traditionally lived in cosy accommodation, with one or more families sharing a single bedroom. High housing prices are leading us all to rediscover the joys of togetherness of this kind.0

The United Nations predicts the UK population will rise by 9 million by 2050, mostly due to immigrationthis thread....should be discussed elsewhere.
BTW why shouldn't a major driver of the UK's future housing market be discussed on the house price forum?
The focus is on the economics, the government response in the area of housing and the likely effect on house prices / rents ; not on future immigration which is assumed will continue apace.
Please keep comments measured and related to housing & house prices.0 -
Instead of trying to bait other posters, why don't you just come out with what you want to say?
i.e. "There's too many f*cking immigrants in this country and that if we don't send them all home there won't be any houses for us".
Or is it something else that is troubling you?0 -
There's no code here. I want a discussion on house prices, and since I own my own home and am economically literate I've no axe to grind on immigration.
Anyone thinking of buying a holiday home in Bulgaria should also read the article above re the fast declining population of Eastern Europe.
Perhaps a better title to the thread would have been "The population thing".0 -
Fair enough.
What do you think the solution is then?0
