i am totally in a food rut....i have slipped into either chips from the chip shop.... or cooking the same basic meals every week....
the kids are starting to say ' i'm fed up of ........'
since i have been concentrating on turning my hobby into a business..... all thoughts of what i am going to cook for food has gone out the window....
so i am going to set myself ( feel free to join in ) a food challenge..
try ( cook) something new .....today ......( well at least one new dish/meal per week)
i have bought a slow cooker.. but no recipe book etc so will try and look into that....
today from the butchers i bought...
8 lamb and mint with a hint of garlic sausages
5 quarter pound steak burgers...
2 chicken breasts
1 large bag of beef mince
1 large bag of beef pieces..
about 12 - 14 spare ribs chineese style
4 individual stuffed rolled lamb
£5 worth of roast ham
so tonight i was thinking of doing the ribs with h.m wedges.....
with the wedges i have only made them with the packet stuff......
so any suggestions ..on what i can use....
i have sea salt.... and various dried herbs and curry powders etc in the cupboard....
i have some bramleys that are desperate to be used up so.... will make a crumble ..which we can have with ice cream for afters....

A couple of tablespoons of olive oil and about 1/2 to 1 tsp paprika usually goes well here.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Hi Cooltrikerchick,
There are loads of suggestions on how to make the potato wedges on this thread:

Count me in !!
I've found that although my family arent' complaining yet, we're having a lot of the same stuff all the time too.
I have some aubergines which I have never cooked before in my life !! So that will be the basis of our try something new this week - any ideas for aubergines welcome LOL
As for the wedges, I usually coat them in oil, then mix together garlic powder, paprika, chilli powder (not a lot), salt and pepper - and sprinkle over the wedges !! mmmm lovely0 -
I've just come across this older thread that might interest anyone taking part in this challenge: Make A Change Challenge

I tried changing our weekly meal plans a few weeks ago but could not get agreement on any of the new dishes that I tried so gave up in the end
funnily enough though the only thing to come out of us trying new stuff was that I made potato wedges just with olive oil and sea salt and they are now a favourite so possibly not such a complete disaster after all. The only other 'new' things that I tried was muffins which were a success, but what I was looking for was a change to main meals like spag bog & chilli con carni because I was getting bored with them. After a couple of weeks of trying new stuff my DD was actually asking for spag bog so thats what we have on the menu tonight

I know what you mean about being in a food rut. We always seem to eat the same food. This is mainly due to time constraints ie needing something quick and easy. However when I am off school and have more time to cook food I do try and cook something different.
I also post and read the meal plans thread each week for inspiration!!
I will watch this thread with interest.

I have been a bit stuck in a rut recently with food due to shift work, and found I was eating to fuel and not to enjoy. So today just as was about to have spag bol with pasta tubes instead of spagetti. I decided to chop in some chorizio(sp) and make it into a pasta bake. It was lovely and I completely surprised myself ( not being the worlds best cook).
Shall definately be trying a few new things from now on. Hope this thread will keep me inspired.
