I've found that although my family arent' complaining yet, we're having a lot of the same stuff all the time too.
I have some aubergines which I have never cooked before in my life !! So that will be the basis of our try something new this week - any ideas for aubergines welcome LOL
As for the wedges, I usually coat them in oil, then mix together garlic powder, paprika, chilli powder (not a lot), salt and pepper - and sprinkle over the wedges !! mmmm lovely
My favourite Aubergine recipe is a bake.
Make a tomato sauce by finely dicing onion/carrot/celery & garlic and fry in olive oil add tinned "chopped "tomatoes and 1/2 tsp dried oregano ,salt & pepper & a pinch of sugar.
Meanwhile slice aubergine length ways and brush with oil and bake for 10 mins to get them started.
Then in a lasagne type pan put a layer of sauce then layer aubergine/sauce till all used up grate a generous layer of parmesean on top and bake for 30 - 40 mins
serve with salad & fresh bread to soak sauce yum!!0 -
this soundds a great idea, i made gingham ribbons cabbage galette yesterday
and have my new organic veg box coming on friday !! its my first one and im really quite giddy, i am sure there will be some new things to try in there!!

Well, the beef pieces can go in the slow cooker to make a good casserole
Make it go further with whatever root veg you like.
One of our favourite slow cooker meals atm is chicken thighs (or whole legs) - I do 8 thighs for 6 of us, squeeze over about half a lemon, sprinkle with Italian herbs and some Parmesan cheese (you don't need loads). Cook on medium for 7-9 hours - the meat just falls off the bone and is incredibly moist and tasty. I skin and brown them first to get rid of a bit of fat. You can dice some carrots or other veg and put them under the chicken. You can cook potatoes in there too, but they don't come out particularly interestingly! I would serve it with jacket or saute or tiny cubed roast potatoes.
If you like BBQ flavour, you can also do chicken thighs/legs (breasts would be fine too I imagine, might need a bit of extra liquid added, and aren't as cheap!) in the slow cooker with about half a bottle of BBQ sauce poured over them - can't get much simpler!Ali - still pretty much a newbie, need to brush up my MS habits!0 -

so basically what i do is put the chicken breast in the slow cooker.. them pour over half a bottle of bbq sauce ..and then just switch it on and leave it for how may hours ?
i have no idea how to use this slow cooker so i need an idiots's manual...lol....will i need any water to keep the chicken moist ?
also i have a bottle of sticky rib sauce ....so i expect i could use that insead of the bbq sauce....
well my wedges went down ok.....
tonight hubby is working until 8pm and the boys are going to train club ( model trains....) so it will be something quick tonight for tea......Work to live= not live to work0 -
Hmm can i join please ? :J
I always seem to be making the same thing, spag bol, shepherds pie (last night) might try mousakka but never eaten aubergenes before let alone cooked them
Could we maybe do a swap shop type of thing, we all say what we are making tonight as per usual and then we swap them all about so everyone has something different to cookor is that a silly idea ?

hi..... cullumpster.....
welcome aboard........i was thinking of going online to one of the bbc's cooking programmes and seeing what recipes they have on there.....
my apple crumble went down well last night ..it's normally all eaten by the time i fancy a bit.... but managed to get in there first....
tonight i am going to make rhueburb crumble.....now the boys are saying they dont like rhueburb.... but to be honest i dont think they ever tasted itas i know hubby dont like it... so i think its the case of hearing hubby saying he dosent like it.. so the boys are saying the same....
even though i made a load of chutney a few weeks ago.. i still have loads growing so... if worst comes to worst i will have a whole crumble to myself what a shame ...i supose i could force myself to eat it :rolleyes:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Yummy rubarb crumble is my fave
It's the only pudding i will eat, as long as it's smothered with cream
I suppose i'm quite lucky as i don't like sweet stuff like cakes and biscuits, every now and then i'll maybe have one of those mini fun size chocolate bars but that's enough for me, i just don't like the texture of chocolate it's horrid !
_pale_
But maybe i'm a bit worse as i am a sucker for a bag of crisps or a packet of peanuts, could quite easily get through a family sized bag of Walkers easily0 -
We are the same and last week we resorted to eating out twice which cost us an extra £30 which we could really have done without spending.
Tonight i am trying leek and butterbean crumble served with mashed potato.I would like to be able to admire a man’s opinions as I would his dog - without being expected to take it home with me."
