Hi All,
Im not sure if this is in the right section of the forums, but here goes,
I am currently in the process of buying my first house, 3-4 weeks to go before i get my keys (fingers crossed)
My Partner and I have always worked for everything we have, our house will need to have loft insulation, and a new boiler installed to modernise the property,
we claim 0 (zero) benifits from the goverment, we have no children etc,
I have been looking into getting loft insulation, but everywhere i read to get any help to make my house more energy efficient i need to go on benefits to help with the cost of having it installed,
I will be paying for a full house rewire, and new boiler myself as im not having a tin pot one,
it annoys me that everything is given to people on benefits and not to the people who aren't and are working towards a better life for themselves
can anyone help me in finding a way to get a contribution from the "system"

Certain Postcodes still get free loft Insulation, I got mine relagged for free last week. I checked earlier in the summer (when contacted initially energy company and 1 installer) said they wasn't any grants etc for my area then, when was finally ready to get it done (money set a side etc) arranged for a free survey and they told me it could be done for free. Survey was on the friday installed on the Monday (next working day). May be worth phoning a couple of Installers to see if there is any help available. Note I am not and never have been on benefits and own my own home.0

If your income is high enough to cover the costs, you will be expected to do so.it annoys me that everything is given to people on benefits and not to the people who aren't and are working towards a better life for themselves

If you can afford to buy a house, you can afford a few rolls of roof lagging.0 -
b&q soon will have very good offers on space blankets. Also build center will start soon with there £1 a roll dealsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thank you for the information chanz, i will keep my eye open for it,
To istar337, i'm not going to start a ethical debate about this, its not a case of if i cant afford it, i'm just trying to get a piece of this so called "fair Britain" if such a word exists,0 -

Just to help you understand Britain a little easier, this is how it works:To istar337, i'm not going to start a ethical debate about this, its not a case of if i cant afford it, i'm just trying to get a piece of this so called "fair Britain" if such a word exists,- People at the bottom get a lot of help
- People at the top get a lot of help
- People in the middle get squat
- And people just above the bottom are hit the worst <-- This is where I am

I have managed to get loft insulation and cavity wall done for free end of arch 2013 by contacting Scottish Power. Give it a try on this link

You must qualify for this, ie need to be on some form of benefit.
With regard to the post above about the build centre offering rolls for £1, yep they did that about 2 years ago, free delivery too! It was subsidised though and I doubt it will happen again. Besidew, the build centre are no more, think they were taken over by jewsons.
Hope youre right abou b&q doing a deal though but i vety much doubt it.0
