Confused about BT Yahoo Mail email

Before I start, I openly admit I'm not particularly computer literate so please be gentle with me!
I received an email stating that "The classic version of BT Yahoo Mail will be replaced by our new version on 21 September 2013. So its time to upgrade before you lose your email access"
The email is from "BTMail update (royandpatward@prodigy.net) which to me seems slightly suspiscous. Secondly when I open the link to upgrade, it says "access denied". So I rang BT to find out if this was actually happening with Yahoo Mail. This was confirmed but the man I spoke to wasnt really helpful as to what I should do about it!
My question is - what do I do? Also, if it is closing for a new version, how does this affect my Microsoft Outlook? Hope someone with more knowledge than me (not hard really!) can enlighten me. Thanks!!

News of it is here http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a486068/bt-ends-yahoo-email-partnership-after-ten-years.htmlAll users will be migrated by the end of the year. They will keep the same addresses and all their email folders, although they may be asked to change their passwords.
The end of the partnership also means the closure of the BT Yahoo portal website, which was automatically set as the home page for BT broadband subscribers.
That said there is also discussion on the BT help boards and there seems some confusion there as to what is legitimate and what isn't (http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Is-this-email-legitimate-please/td-p/285033/page/2)
Can't really be more help, hope you do get it sorted out.0 -
Don't click on a link if you are suspicious. Log into your BT Yahoo account and you should see an upgrade option if available.
This refers to the webmail only, it shouldn't have any impact on POP3 emails received via Outlook or any other desktop email program (apart from the possible password change mentioned above). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
macman, whats POP3?0

I've had a similar email and they apply to people who don't have BT broadband or subscribe to their premium mail service.
It seems BT are parting company with Yahoo and closing the accounts of people who just use their free email service. Seems you have to sign up for premium mail at £1.60 a month or subscribe to BT broadband. I think they've delayed it for a year though due to protests.
However the quick way round it is just to sign up with Outlook email by Microsoft - it's free and seems to work better than BT Yahoo and is easy to do, especially if you don't have a lot of contacts to notify of a new email address.0 -
I have just got mail on new site BUT no "remember me" option. A real pain having to log on each time.0

Thanks for the reply but I have a broadband account with BT - thats what I couldnt understand. However, from the replies, I think I will leave the email well alone and wait and see what happens!0 -
I always get the 'error 553' message when emailing from my iPhone via WiFi despite having been online and confirming all email adresses as instructed.0
