Background music party tracks

Can anyone give me the titles of good background music?
It is for music to be in the background, for a gathering of friends who all have children (the children will be absent)
I am useless with music, so would be great if there are a few good albums I can download to play on the iphone docking station while they drink and chat.
Thank you

It depends how much you want the music to dominate the room ?
I quite like Ben Howard - Every Kingdom if it is just something to fill the gaps in the conversation and that sounds familiar but not heard every day .
I think this thread could easily end up in an argument over peoples favourites.
could you post a bit more about your own tastes or the age or size of the group ? time of day ? ..cups of coffee or mugs of beer ?..0 -
The Best of Van Morrison....
Michael Jackson Number Ones....
Nelly Furtado Loose
Just a random few that I can play the whole album & not keep pushing the 'Next' button0 -
May be a bit off the wall, but if the majority of guests were in their teens in the 80's I would heartily recommend DJ Yoda -How To Cut And Paste: 80's edition.
There's some great samples on it.
Available from webuy.com (CEX) for £3.50 delivered, but £2.50 of that is the delivery charge, so you could add a few more CD's to the order for the same delivery cost.0 -
Can't beat a bit of Cliff Richard, he's got a new album out too..http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EP7A446/ref=as_li_ss_tlie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00EP7A446&linkCode=as2&!!!!!cliff-210

How about some Richard Cheese - lounge/swing covers of contemporary songs - that might appeal to elderly middle class types.0 -

How about an album compilation of 80's or 90's songs? Or the most recent 'Now' album? A friend plays those in the background when we go round, l always enjoy them but it's down to personal taste really.
Happy moneysaving all.0
