I was a member of Rock Choir for one term. I quite liked it but found £100 a term plus having to pay for travelling to and from the classes (40 miles for me) was too expensive.
Just a thought, Gingervamp, Some cancer charities have formed choirs for affected people (may be low cost or even free) maybe google and see if there are any in your area....if not perhaps email some local cancer support charities and suggest if there were enough demand they might consider setting one up you could reach?
They would then have the background taking any members limitations/needs into account...
Good Luck as I think singing is very uplifting and enjoyable.:A Goddess :A0 -
I'm in a local community choir set up last year and absolutely love it. Have met some lovely new people and love the chance to sing at a variety of local events. It's very much mixed ability but as an experienced music-reader I've never been bored. We sing a huge range of music, really is something for everyone.
We meet twice a month and charge £2 per session to cover our costs (hall, music, pianist, etc). If you don't attend a session, you don't pay.
Just wanted to let you know that there may be cheaper alternatives near you, definitely worth a google. Ok, we'll probably never play the O2 (that sounds amazing!) but we do have a great time.0 -
That's a good idea sleepymans, I'll have a look.0

I'm not but I have friends who are, and they have a great time!
One thing they do say is that for some people it can be more of a stepping stone than a long term hobby - if you find you really enjoy singing, you might want to move on to a more challenging vocal group after a few months or years. Rock choir is designed to be fun for people who haven't sung much before (and it does a great job at that!), so once you know what you're doing you can fnd it a little slow going. But the atmosphere is friendly and supportive, and it's great if you haven't much time to practise or are just dipping a toe in the proverbial water!
Hmmm....I've sung plenty before (been a few years since anything though) and had a vocal coach but I've just signed up to a local rock choir tonight purely for the fun of it and because there are morning sessions too.(then searched on here and found this thread!)
Hope I won't end up too disappointed.Doubt I will as I just love singing, not sure if I'll end up disappointed having to sing with others forever though...I may end up frustrated lolIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

This thread made me google...
Sounds like something I joined at uni. Fun choir called revelation which had connections with around 25 other revelation choirs in other unis across the country.
Met once a year for a big fun sing song show. Loved it.
No auditions, no need to read music. I wonder if the founder of rock choir was an ex rev member?!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I'm a member and have been for three years now. It's great fun and we've done some amazing things - like singing at Wembley Stadium as entertainment at the rugby, a flash mob in a local shopping centre, entertained at fun run and half marathon, entertainment at turning on Xmas lights, as well as the biggies - the O2 and Liverpool Echo Arena and the Ideal Home Show.
We're learning some great songs this term too - Just the way you are, I believe in a thing called love and True Colours. I'd thoroughly recommend it for adventurous souls who want to sing the solos to those like me who prefer to sing with the crowd.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
