Anybody here a member of The Rock Choir?

I'm thinking of signing up to my local group and was wondering if anyone here's a member.

I'm not but I have friends who are, and they have a great time!

One thing they do say is that for some people it can be more of a stepping stone than a long term hobby - if you find you really enjoy singing, you might want to move on to a more challenging vocal group after a few months or years. Rock choir is designed to be fun for people who haven't sung much before (and it does a great job at that!), so once you know what you're doing you can fnd it a little slow going. But the atmosphere is friendly and supportive, and it's great if you haven't much time to practise or are just dipping a toe in the proverbial water!
  • I am, and I love it!!!

Have made loads of new friends through it and each week we have a laugh and a good sing,

I've sung with professional choirs before joining rockchoir and my rockchoir is just as good and plus this year we performed with 12000 other members at the 02! Cant beat that :)

I would defo say go for it xx
  • A colleague goes to rock choir and has an amazing time with it, she was also one of the performers at the O2 in July.

I am and I love it! No need to have sung before or read music, no auditions, great songs (if sometimes a bit cheesy!)

You can go for a free 'taster' session at all of the choirs, I think, so you can try it out with no obligation.

There's loads of stuff on Youtube including lots from the O2 and Liverpool arenas this summer - there might be something from your local choir.
  • i think £100 membership fee a term is a bit much.

There is one near me and I was tempted 'til I saw the fee. I can't afford that.

Be aware, it is a "money Making" exercise. Dosen mean you cant enjoy it, of course, no more than say joining a slimming club.

or any other pastime you do - I also thought the fee was a bit steep, but the nearest choir group to me is a 90 minutes session once a week. Thats not far off what my daughter was doing at dance once a week until earlier this year, and I was nearly the same price for her dance group, broken down per week, as Rock Choir.

Thanks for the comments. I hadn't heard of it until yesterday when a tweet from somebody I follow mentioned it. Had a look and found one nearby.

I love singing, always wanted to be in a band. That's never going to happen, so I figured that this was the next best thing. :)

The fee is a bit steep, but I rarely spend any money on myself and it says you can pay monthly, so it's do-able budgetwise.

The only thing that worries me is that since having cancer, it's affected my strength and I can only stand for a short while before I get all shaky and breathless. I think I'll sign up for the taster session and see how it goes.
