Smart TV queries

I bought a JVC LT-32TW51J , it didn't come with the dongle etc. My questions are....does any dongle work on any TV? And am I right in thinking that is what connects the Tv to the internet? Also...I have seen IncrediSonic Ultra Play IMP150 - HD TV Digital Mini Media Player - 1080p, does this connect you to the internet? If so would it still require a dongle?? Or is it for streaming movies? Dont know much about these Smart TV's.

TV's dont use dongles to connect to the internet.

if they are internet capable, then they will either have wifi built in, or a network port
  • Reading through the instruction manual, it says 'USB dongle is required to use wireless internet access. What is a network port? Is that for a usb lead or something?

A network port takes an Ethernet cable from your router to the TV. This is how it connects to the internet via a wired connection. If your router is not close to your TV you can use a pair of Homeplugs which takes the Ethernet connection via your electricity circuit.

If you don't want to use a wired option then it seems you can use a wireless option by buying a USB dongle.

Fuschia, firstly, when you bought the TV, were you told that WiFi was built in, or that the dongle was included? If so, the shop owes you a dongle.
No the TV can't just use any dongle, it'll be a special one that they specify. BUT this 'special' one very likely has the same innards as another popular one that plugs into computers, which would cost £10 instead of £80.
Either search the net to see if anyone else has had any success, or goto avforums.com for good specific info on your TV, you'll have to dig a bit.
    Also, wired is better!
No idea about that little box you're talking about - if it doesn't mention having WiFi, it doesn't have it.
