Challenging pay comparing against colleague

Not disappointed that she didn't bring gender into it then?
Should I be? It sounds like there is already a pay audit underway and HR are aware that they are not equality act compliant in some areas. The main thing is that OP receives the same pay as her male colleagues doing the same work, as she is legally and morally entitled to. It doesn't matter if the correction is initiated by her or HR, as long as it happens!0 -
.
I am currently part time (32 hours a week) but were I to work full time I would earn £20000. My colleague earns £25000 for identical job description. He has worked for company for 6 years. The company I work for absorbed my previous employer, retaining the same Directors. I have worked for the current and historical company in total for 15 years.
Am I right to feel aggrieved by this? He is male, I am female. .I was very professional and had it all planned out before I went in. Didn't bring gender into it at all because I don't think it is that.
So you weren't sure it was cause he was a bloke then? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

What about if the other person was a female?
The other person isn't a female.
If he was, maybe he wouldn't be paid as much as he is now.
Maybe if he was then OP's performance would have also been recognised.
Maybe there would be some other element of legal or illegal discrimination at play.
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
The comparator was a male doing like work, end of.0 -
you're not a feminist by any chance are you Southend?0

Sorry but LazyDaisy's post shows you that two different sex's can be paid different wages.
It would be very interesting if the OP's colleague now gets their salary dropped to the OP's rate!Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

Yes of course they can be paid different wages but only if the employer can justify it in a legitimate way e.g. As Daisy said if the differential was historical due to a TUPE transfer or if the colleague was more successful at meeting performance targets.0 -

I don't know. I am a man, does that rule me out?0 -
