tricky insurance problem (motor trade no claims??)

I am currently looking about for car insurance, the problem i have is that OH and i own a business and are currently covered by a motor trade policy. The business is closing therefore the motor trade policy will cease and we will need to insure our two cars privately

we have a 51 plate alfa 147 1.6 and a chrysler grand voyager 3.3 petrol. hubby is 40 been driving 20+ yrs with no claims im 34 been driving 1 yrs again with no claims

now having looked about a bit and spoken to various people it would seem most places dont give a hoot if you have a motor trade no claims they wont count it, to insure cars on one multicarpolicy was £2700 (yikes!) the only place that will consider the 4 years motor no claims is churchill and they are still quoting £1700

anyone have any advice of anywhere else to try?it also appears that we have lost any NCD we went into the trade policy with (a further 5 years) as they agaain wont take that into consideration even though i have documnted proof of it

HELP!!!!!

  • Some insurers do allow you to bring a "company car" NCD across to their personal policies. Whilst Motor Trade isnt technically a company car I am sure that some at least will consider it.

If Churchill did then try their sister companies of Direct Line and Privilege. Likewise check with the aggregators and enter the NCD as earned by a company car and then contact the insurers BEFORE buying to ensure they are happy with a motor trade rather than traditional company car

if you can't find anything better then go with Churchill and after one year you'll get a NCB statement you can take elsewhere.

It might also be that if you went with Churchill and then cancelled early that would generate a transportable NCB statement bit I'm not sure.

I'd have thought a decent traditional broker would have been able to help

This question seems to get asked quite often so update with your outcome please

Ask the broker / Insurer who arranged the MT policy if they can help as they normally can.

Alternatively follow Inside's advice especially if it's a limited company
  • I have already spoken to my broker prior to posting this but unfortunately he cant help

no wonder people dont insure their cars its just daylight robbery, i can prove i have had no claims for at least the last 9 years but because the companies have decided a motor trade policy even in my name not the companies cannot be used as proof of no claims :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
