  • I really must phone SKY about changing over. I've disliked the Yahoo mail since BT forced me to use it and having nothing except problems now is just the last straw.
  • BT Yahoo mail is closing down all previously free btinternet email addresses, in fact it happened on Sept 16th. This closure only applies to anyone not using BT broadband or paying £1.60 a month for the BT Premium mail service and that includes me.

Strangely though I just tried mine and it still worked perfectly even though I should by now have been cut off - I wonder if that affects the other people who posted on here and the cut off is gradual?

For my sins I do have BT broadband. Probably not for much longer though.

For once I was aware it wasn't me, espresso - thankyou again.
Yes, I noted the postponed changeover date and have already done what's necessary to retain current low-tech addy at no cost.
No social n/w or extras pour moi, merci.

Please note: it is not necessary to pay £1.60 per month.

  • (Re espresso comment -Please check before posting incorrect info. - it did not happen on Sept 16th!)

It did according to the emails sent out by BT Yahoo some time ago - I and many other people received them giving exactly the info I posted.

If you know of a different timeline for this switch off then please post details to inform other people posting on this thread.

  • (Re ampersand comment - Please note: it is not necessary to pay £1.60 per month.)

I just checked the BT info page from espresso's link and it does suggest that if you don't have or sign up to BT broadband that you will be required to pay £1.60 a month after a free period of 12 months for their premium mail service.

This quote is taken from their website
"Move to BT Premium Mail- Keep your @talk21.com email address free for 12 months by signing up to BT Premium Mail. Standard monthly fee of £1.60 will apply after the 12 month period."

It would seem therefore that BT have given a 12 month respite to allow people more time to change email providers or decide to sign up with them.
