Can't even open Basic Barclays Account? Help

Hi
So I applied for a basic Barclays account, for people who are bankrupt etc, the only thing is, I have never been bankrupt and only have 3 defaults on my equifax credit file.
I got approved at the branch and the man said there would be no problems.
I received letters for my online banking etc, card number..and then a final letter stating they no longer want to do business with me..
what on earth could be the problem?

No although I did default on a Bank of Scotland account once, although it has long dropped off from my credit file, it was over 6 years ago
I suspect they have me on some secret bankers list0 -
They did the same to me with a CC, got it and everything and then got a letter saying it was not happening anymore. Bunch of cowboys."All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

I said that to them over the phone..I said why are you wasting people's time? They advertise the account for people with bad credit or have been bankrupt and then DO A CREDIT CHECK
I mean how stupid can you get? Seriously can anyone explain this logical loop?
I still reckon it is not the credit file, and is some secret list they have between banks..because a default on a credit file which was admitted and explained to them surely cannot be the reason0 -
There is no 'secret list' but they will do further checks once the account is opened, turns out they don't think you're going to meet the requirements they set for accounts. Could be anything, and they won't tell you what it is that you've done wrong.
Move on, try somewhere else. Might be worth getting a copy of your credit file just to be sure though!Getting married 02.08.14

isn't there some law that says people are entitled to a basic account?
"further checks" <<<this is the secret list..what checks? I have a right to know under Data Protection laws
I just want to know what it is so I can make steps to improve my situation0 -
Have you checked your credit report? Do you have any CIFAS markers?Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

you would think that, however upon checking all my credit files, there are no CIFAS or other fraud markers. Just 3 defaults on my equifax (other two clean go figure)
So what is this secret list they are using?0 -
You'll never truly know, unfortunately.
I'm just thinking off the top of my head: are the ID documents you used 'valid'? i.e. if you presented a passport/driving licence for ID, are they current and not reported lost/stolen or anything? It could be as simple as using the wrong driving licence/passport if you 'lost', 'reported' and then 'found' it again?? I've no idea what lengths banks go to check ID.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
