I hope you are feeling better now, Puzz. Not the best time of year to be under the weather especially as it's your favourite time;)
I've been having a nightmare time this past few days and can't see an end in sight:mad:. All our electrics fused last week (coldest days of the year, thick ice and frost:eek:) and I had to get an emergency elsctrician out as we are all-electric here and had no lights, heating or even the facility to make a cup of tea for over 13 hours:eek:. Our central heating is by oil but it needs electricity to drive the pump. OH had gone out for the full day but is useless in emergencies anyway so I was glad I was sorting it myself.
The electrician got here about 7.30 in the evening and had to work in really cold and dark conditions. He confirmed what I already knew, that our 1970s electrics are knackered/wiring corroded. Plus, some of the walls are damp and when OH gets round to getting something done about it (and spending his money which is anathema to him:eek:) we need most of the internal plaster chipped back and the brickwork treated and replastered. The rewiring is going to be done at the same time
The electrician was lovely and split the circuits to leave us with just enough sockets that he felt the system could cope with. At least we have lights, heating again and I can satisfy my tea habit thanks to the kettle:j. The cooker socket is out so I'm having to juggle cooking on a single worktop portable electric ring and a Tefal Actifry. OH had the cheek to complain about 'sausages again' last night for tea but he should think himself lucky to get anything hot. I managed some chips and beans too, he wasn't starving. We live about 7 miles from the nearest place that serves food so eating out isn't on his agenda:(. OH brought one of the outdoor extension reels in and we've cables snaking all over the house from available sockets. At least I can watch a bit of TV in the evenings.
My ancient microwave went to the tip ages ago, I hardly ever used it and it was my Mum's in the first place and she'd used it for yonks. I may have to bite the bullet and spend on a new one as it would be handy at the moment and at this rate we'll be roughing it with negligible cooking facilities for months at the rate OH gets organised:(. I could just get a cheapie microwave to tide us over but spending money goes against the grain for me these days;).
I paid for the electrician by credit card (the emergency callout company insisted on a card number before accepting the booking). I was very dubious paying on the phone for a service that might never have turned up but I needn't have worried as everything seems to have been OK:j. OH is going to pay me back in cash when he gets round to it.
My worry was how much it was going to cost as I only had a £500 limit on my card and wouldn't know the cost until the work was done/hours booked. Turns out I had plenty to spare:j. Then, blow me, I had an email today from Capital One saying I've been such a good girl:rotfl: that they are doubling my credit limit from £500 to £1000 in January:j. It's not as if I intend to spend that amount but it's always a lifeline in a real emergency.
Sorry, been rabbiting a bit:o. It's good to talk as the old BT telly ad used to tell us:rotfl:0 -

Oh my goodness cbc, I do hope 2018 is a little kinder to you...!
Did you have plans to cook a big Christmas dinner? Thank goodness for the cc, you are allowed to use it in emergency's that is what it was for..! And to be given a credit rise must mean you are on the up!!!
i hope it all gets sorted quickly.

:xmastree:... Its Friday.....:j:j:j
Met up with LF yesterday, he looked well but said he didn't feel very good.. he was worried about waking up for his 2am start this morning heading off for his Christmas holiday.. I really hope he has a lovely time and we had a nice lunch (well bowl of chips...)..
Didn't complete any wrapping or Christmas movie watching.. I did iron the shirt and OH has now headed off for his first trip away.. he will be back Christmas eve to do his packing for his big trip....
I received another cca from wes*ot for my Natsvest account.. unfortunately it was just an even poorer printed copy of what they sent me which I have been told is UE so I have sent them the missing PT letter, in the post this morning signed for... shall wait to hear what they say....
Off out for Christmas Cafe lunch with my work colleagues today and then will spend some time in the office.. not sure how much mind....
BFF coming round at about 5 for a few drinks and then no doubt some tv watching with or without dd depending what she is up to....
Must do housework tomorrow and my wrapping...!!!
Payday.. have moved wages into savings...

I've just been following you round the threads, Puzz:rotfl:. Just finished reading your lovely optimistic post on the DMP Support thread when a notification popped into my inbox that there was a new post on here.
Not going to be online much in the next few days so want to say a big thank you:T for the inspiration you give and the advice that you share on this thread, all done with a wry sense of humour and I imagine, if I could see your face, a smile:A.
I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas, even though you will be minus OH. In my case that would be a very good thing;) but sadly there's no chance of it happening and I'll be blessed with his presence for the foreseeable future.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your UE debts to be confirmed and hoping the same for my doubtful ones. Wouldn't it be wonderful?:j After the obscene amount of interest I've paid over the years to so many of my creditors I wouldn't have the slightest qualms about paying the absolute minimum to get the final balances written off.
With my F&F Fighting Fund in really good nick (thanks to months of token payments and a couple of PPI refunds) and hopefully with a bit of good luck on the UE front I can see that I could be finally debt free by this time next year_party_:dance:. I'm not assuming that it definitely will happen but I'm more optimistic about my debt situation than I've ever been in my life, even with about £20000 still outstanding:o.
Here's to a brilliant, happy and healthy 2018 for you and yours:beer:0 -

And another Christmas rushes past... and onto the NY...
Hope everyone had a good one, our's was short and sweet and actually very pleasant... with just the one c*ck up.....which has kept me busy since...
OH went off to the Airport on Christmas day morning.. at lunchtime before we headed out I decided to hide away our stash of cash.. I hate leaving the house empty at this time of year.. and what do I find in the hiding place but OH's Oz dollars.. all 2K's worth of them.. oops.... my fault as I got the money out of the place for him but had forgotten there were 2 packets as he is off to NZ as well.. and he didn't check....
Que panic... fb messaged my sis to say I would arrange transfer of cash.. sent mssg to OH so he wouldn't think he had lost it when he stopped on route.... and since then it has been lots of fun doing international transfers, cashing back up the currency.. and no guesses for who has taken the hit for the losses....
Oh well, could be worse..... So I am currently £140 down.. but OH gave me £200 for Christmas, mum gave me £20 and I have £115 in vouchers I think we'll be alright..:D
DD and I have just spent the week chilling.. she has started her studying for her first exam.. unheard of this far in advance.....
Has finally stopped raining here so may venture out this afternoon to the shops, don't need much but the fresh air may be nice..!
Payday has been and gone.. all saving pots topped up..
No socials planned except one late January which I am organising as its a big birthday.. what I had planned doesn't seem to be available anymore so that's a job for the rest of the holidays for me....
Right off to see if dd is joining me this morning.. and maybe make a cuppa...

Just dashing in to wish you and all your family a really great 2018:beer:. I hope all those who've been experiencing health issues are restored to fighting fitness before too long.
There's been a lot of doom and gloom for me this past few months:( but I've given myself a good talking to and realise that I had a lot to be grateful for and happy about in 2017 too:j.
I'm going to hit 2018 head on with all guns blazing. My millstone debts are going to be history by this time next year;). Probably tempting fate given the amount of structural/remedial work we need on the house just to make it reasonably comfortable. Knowing OH's reticence to spend any money whatsoever (and he doesn't have debts, they're all mine:o and has masses of savings and investments) I expect I'll have to pay for some of it if I consider it essential:eek::mad:
OH was just walking across a pedestrian crossing in town yesterday and managed to pull a muscle in his leg:eek:. No idea how that could have happened, it beggars belief. He's a poor patient and has been moaning for England since last night:(. It's put a stop to him decluttering/emptying one of the spare bedrooms and landing (currently full to the rafters with his hoarded stuff:eek:) as the electrician said he needs to take the floorboards up when he does the rewiring. We haven't even booked anyone to do it yet as the quotes range from £5000 upwards and OH is still in a state of shock:rotfl:0
