New proposed EU speeding law?

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I doubt it will ever happen.

    Dangerous apart from anything.

I welcome it with open arms......:T:T

Means my latest new car will have another 10 mph on its top speed....:j

    [Or..isn't that what they mean?:(:(]

actually, the only drivers it would affect are those who intend to drive as fast as they can, ignoring the present speed limits willy-nilly.

If technologically speed limited to , say, 70 mph, then all that really means is, performances will go back to what they were in the 1960's.......where many ordinary family cars would barely reach more than 70 mph anyway....and motorways existed back then too..[albeit with grass up the middle].

Thus...if limited to 70, then ideal max cruising speeds will be in the order of 60mph, with a little bit extra for those weeny emergencies that all those public highway speed freaks will complain about?

Much as it is now, but less voluntary?

Trouble is, most drivers are nowadays used to a surfeit of power....and see no reason why they cannot use it? [or at least, raise a plethora of excuses when caught using it?]......................so life when speed limited isn't a concept they can get their heads around.

Maybe, if every new driver in the past 10 years or so had had to spend many years getting about in a Citroen 2CV, they would know how to cope in a speed-limited world?

Thus I suspect the idea will be greeted with derision and uproar.

    Won't bother me one iota.

[I have no desire to buy a new car!]

But it wouldn't be dangerous if it did.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I've onften wondered, somewhat abstractly, why limiters aren't on cars - possibly because of the variation in speed limits across the EU. presumably set at 66 in the UK as trucks are legally allowed to travel at 60, but are limited to 56 max.

Used car prices are gonna be phenomenal if this ever happened.

Will never ever happen, Govt would lose a valuable source of income. Would mean the idea/cost of average speed cameras across motorways would be a waste of money. Can you imagine German manufacturers agreeing to this!

Why would it be dangerous? many vehicles are already limited to 70mph and wagons to 56mph and I set the limiter on my car to whatever the speed limit is on most roads I use.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Isn't this old news? I thought I saw a thread on the same topic a couple of weeks ago.

EU plans to fit all cars with speed limiters

Used car prices are gonna be phenomenal if this ever happened.

As I read it, the legislation would be retrospective.

Cars to have £250 limiter under barmy Euro rules
