Tesco 'British' pork 'highly unlikely' to be from UK - Tesco let us down yet again

My mother says that years ago Tesco was seen as really downmarket. So maybe underneath Tesco hasn't changed much and it's all smoke n mirrors flash advertising that lulls us into thinking Tesco has values.
You mother is right. Tesco was always seen as a downmarket store and what reputation it had was based on Jack Cohen's policy of 'pile it high and sell it cheap'
Tesco's original own brand, Delamare, was a byword for mediocrity, too.
I doubt anyone over 40 will ever be able to see Tesco as much different from, say, Asda, whatever image polishing it goes in for.0 -
Tesco should place an inspector in the packing and processing plant, and make frequent farm visits.Personally I would not use a supermarket for meat-local butchers are cheaper, better quality and tell jokes.
Tesco is a multi billion pound Conglomerate and;it would surprise me more if they didnt have spokespeople on this site to try to make lite in convoluted double speak of
their intentional monetary soulless gain at anyone & everyones expense0 -

Agreed. You can be very sure that Tesco will have people posting positive pro-Tesco messages across forums like this, HUKD, Facebook, Twitter etc in the hope that they can put across a positive spin.
Must be getting a lot more difficult for them, though! :rotfl:0 -

^ That's the way I've always viewed Tesco, downmarket and cheap, along with Asda. It's a toss up on which is the most unpleasant to shop in these days. Sainsbury's has always been better, then Waitrose.0 -
Atleast Aldi is the supermarket you can trust.0

Do we actually know this? The German food industry has had its problems too.
You can certainly trust Aldi's prices far more than you can Tesco's. Aside from the recent strawberries prosecution, Tesco is stuffed full of fake prices aimed at deceiving its customers into buying more because items look like bargains, when they're not.
Prices increased, then brought down again as a 'reduction' are all over the stores. And the worst of the lot is the wine department - huge numbers of fake prices, magically halved to look like bargains.
Aldi and Lidl don't adopt this approach - and the Aldi wines in particular represent really good value. Far cheaper than Tesco, decent wines, and genuine pricing.
You can't trust Tesco further than you can throw it! They prove that time after time.0 -
