Morning all,
Feeling at a loose end today so might go and sort through the Christmas present boxes in the attic room to cheer myself up and feel a bit more positive.
I've started changing over my summer clothes to the winter clothes - it's easy as I went mad earlier this year and invested in a huge pile of non-slip hangers. All my warmer blouses etc are hanging in the wardrobe in DS2's room ready to wear. Woollies are in his chest of drawers. I'll swap them with the summer clothes over the next week or so. It felt strange 'claiming' the space but the family all live away and most of the drawers were empty.
I'm also swotting up on astronomy. When they asked me in work what I'd like as a leaving gift, I said "a telescope". I still don't know why I said that .....anyway, it's arriving on Friday. Fortunately we can't see into anybody's house from our garden but we do have a fair bit of sky to look at, although there is an annoying street light in the lane which might cause a problem. Apparently I will be able to see the craters on the Moon, and the rings of Saturn (if I can work out where Saturn is!) so I'm quite excited.
Have the best day you can all xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

Cold here last night and the blankets got put on the beds. I will not be putting the heating on yet, it is too expensive, we are still trying to find a reputable company to put a multi-fuel stove in, but they are rare around here.
Amazing that they have got the Costa Concordia upright, I watched on the Guardian live feed until 12pm and then I had to go to bed.

Morning all.
DD dragged herself off to work this morning, she has done nothing but sleep since she got back, but still looks shattered!
I am off to the doctors shortly for a sign off line, so I can go back to work after my holiday:eek: Its a thought after being off so long, but the walls are closing in on me now! Then I need to take some stuff out of my case, its feeling a tad heavy!
Have a good day all.RIP Iain

Couple of loads on the line to hopefully dry before any rain comes in.
Dough in breadmaker for breadsticks and made a cake, two friends and cousin and husband coming for dinner tomorrow night for one of friends birthday dinner, so making her a cake to spoil her, she deserves it.
Hugs to all those who need them.
I am trying to stock up the store cupboard on a weekly basis too, I try to keep one item being used and at least one spare, would really like to make this two spare, I try to buy when things on offer.Carolbee0 -

Luxor4t I love astronomy although much goes over my head. Looking at moon through telescope is amazing. Where I live now has less light pollution so looking forward to some clear skies to see the planets and constellations

Well I woke before 6 this morning and it looks as though the summer's really gone as it was black as Newgates Knocker outside.
I'd never heard that phrase before! Then again, I am in the Midlands. My equivalent is "Black over Bill's Mother's" which I acquired from living in Nottingham.

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is doing ok,and hugs to Hilstep, beemuzed,Halight,PP,Molly and Hester sorry if I forgot anyone.
Finished off my batch cooking yesterday, all in the freezer now-trouble is I forgot to leave anything out for tonight. There are some chicken breasts I need to use but DS2 doesnt eat chicken so I'll have to do something else for him and DGD.I made a start on the Moses basket recovering yesterday, though it seems a little bit big so I'm hoping to sort that out this afternoon-not going out anywhere its horrible weather
I'm another who loves being a Gran but then again I worked with small children for a lot of my working life so I suppose that helps a bit,I enjoy their company better than some adults
When the lads were small, one of their friends mums said I was the only person she knew who looked forward to school hols :rotfl:
Mind you,Dgd is 2 next week and is enjoying her toddler terrible 2s tantrums at the moment
,but am still eagerly anticipating the arrival of expected DGS in Nov.My DDad was great with the lads and would pop over,or take us out,did a lot of the babysitting etc DM was happy to see them once a week at their house but rarely came with Dad to babysit, and I dont recall her actually playing with them really-spose some folks just don't know what to do with kids really. She was an only child & her M&D were a bit older than some, don't know if that had anything to do with it-having said that I spent a lot of time with them when I was young,my Grandpa used to take me to 2 libraries every week as I was a real bookworm, and my Gran taught me a lot about cooking and baking, sewing etc and I loved them to bits, bless em.
Lylapup is asleep so I'm going to sneak upstairs and do some sewing while its quiet ;)Have good afternoons x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Afternoon All
It's a bit manic at Casa DG at the moment. But have achieved some outstanding jobs.:A
After shortening some new curtains for our bedroom last week, then making Skye her new bed, I started some more "mending", the turn up had come unstitched on one of my good bathroom towels, so that started it, sewing the hem on some jeans I had shortened into long shorts, sewing a seam on one of DH's shorts, new bones in bras, and fixing some so the bones stayed in, etc., I had two bikini tops where the plastic fastened had broken, knew I had bought one some time ago, sorted out my sewing drawer, found a pile of things I had taken out of magazines, found these were Women's Weekly free dressmaking patterns, back to wheni cannot recall, but as I have recently bought 3 lots of material, I will see if I can use them for the material.
Scanned some recent papers into the PC, together with some older onces I am trying to catch up with, so now up to date, just more of the older stuff as and when it can be fitted in.. Have had to call it quits now, as need to pack, as off to the sun on Saturday until November.
Just on our way to Cottenham, E. Yorks, to take the caravan in for some warranty work while we are away. Then a quick look around Beverley, before going to some friends in Hull and we will all go out for tea.
((Hugs)) Bemuzed, Molly, LW, PP & anyone not up to par. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Afternoon all
Late post from me today, hubby had an interview this morning so I drove him into town, sat and read for an hour and drove him to work when he'd finished.
Came home, had a drink and a sandwich and then decided I was brave enough to tackle Mr T's where I bought some reduced lamb chops for tea, 3 cami vests and 8 prs of knickers, I'm tired of spending most of the week commando especially as it is getting chilly now.
I shall spend the next hour or 2 sitting with my feet up with my crochet until hubby phones for a lift home.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -

Thank you. It's a phrase my mother has always used and now I know what it means hurrah :T
Rain has well and truly set in. Been quite productive sorting out some boxes of breakable stuff etc. have a mountain of shredding to get through, might start that once I've collected kids from school.
Hubby wants fish finger sandwiches and wedges. Not so sure about the former but hey ho he can make his own sarnie if he wants.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
